Adios Libby and Lake Havasu

We drove further North today but first I have to finish off with our visit last night.

We had a wonderful visit with Libby and Colin did a few tiny chores for her.

A very old Kodak.  Do you know the year Libby?

Sorry for the blurred image.  We now have this camera with us.  Does anyone out there collect something like this?

Lots of conversation and a great meal with some leftovers for my good friend.

Colin did a few other things for Libby after dinner including taking down this mirror.  Her home is full of antiques and she is just now starting to dispose of some.

We haven’t had a photo of the three of us before.

Yes those are red eyes with tears. Always so difficult to say good bye.

We left Lake Havasu a bit later this morning. I was having a credit card issue which took an hour to resolve.  The white you see in the upper third to the middle right are boondocking  RV’s.  Wildflowers line the road.

We have driven I40 quite a bit over the last months and there was no welcome to California sign and as this was our first time into California this trip, this was was the best substitute that I could find.  Someone really needs to talk to the California roads department about putting up a sign on I40 as you cross over from Arizona.

I made certain to capture this sign as we headed North.

Very modern rest area as we travel along HWY 95 North to Las Vegas.

We marvelled at being able to see the Joshua trees in bloom.

Not quite certain but I think that this last photo shows the Joshua tree in mini form or perhaps it is another cactus that is blooming.

We are happily stopped for a few nights at the Las Vegas RV Resort.  Last November we were here for 12 nights just before heading south to Mexico.  The drive today was only 147.2 miles but we were both tired.  This is our last time for some serious R+R until we leave for Europe mid May.

I just received an email about crossing into the US via Lukeville.  It looks like this border crossing is a mixed bag.  Everyone will have to make their own decision.  Personally we will still go with the auto entrance next  season.

Hi you guys, we are now back in the US.  We thought the roads were pretty good overall, just a few bad areas.  Stayed at the SmartGas in Los Mochis the first night, then did go to Playa de Cortez in Guaymas 2nd night, as we arrived early.  Spent night 3 in Santa Ana, and are now in Organ Pipe National Monument for about 4 nights.  Had an interesting last day, as *** had a blowout on his trailer between Caborca and Sonoyta,  and when they went to change the tire, discovered his spare was missing!  Fortunately he had an extra new tire, so he and *** drove 40K back to Caborca, and had it mounted on the rim while ** and I stayed with the RVs, and we were back on the road about 2 hrs later.  ******&*****from park 2 passed us, so we asked them to tell us which entrance to the TIP return place they used.  Turns out they went through the auto entrance.  We used the bus one as an employee told us to, and it was fine.  It looks like they have cut the curbing out a few feet, so it is possible to make the turn.  However, the guy who removed our sticker said it was fine to use the auto lanes as long as you were not too high.   *** used the auto lane, and caught his satellite dish on the overhead, so had to back out and use the bus lane. Seems like if there is any doubt about height , you should use the bus lane.  Hope you are enjoying your r&r, as we plan to do here.  Safe travel the remainder of your trip.  Hasta luego!??

On another note, one of our friends and a fellow blogger lost his wife yesterday.  Norma was a very unique lady and will be missed by many.  It was an honour for us to call her a friend.

December 9, 2012, our last visit.

SUCH A WONDERFUL VISIT. ALWAYS TOO SHORT. THANK YOU BOTH FOR CUTTING UP ALL THOSE VEGGIES FOR THE SCRUMPTIOUS FISH CHOWDER – “THE GIFT WHICH KEEPS ON GIVING”. THANK YOU COLIN FOR FIXING MY HINGES AND THE OTHER CHORES. YOU TWO ARE THE BEST. YOU DID HAVE SOME PRETTY WILD FLOWERS TO SEE ON YOUR NORTHERN TREK. THAT REST STOP AT CAL-NEV-ARI IS STATE OF THE ART. IN YOUR LAST POST, YOU TALKED ABOUT THE BANNER TOW HERE IN HAVASU. IT IS SPRING BREAK HERE, FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS. THIS WAS FOR GEICO BUT FOR MANY YEARS THE BANNER WAS “TROJAN HORSE CONDOMS”. PERSONALLY I PREFER THE LATTER!!! AS FOR THE CAMERA, I DON’T REMEMBER THE MODEL NUMBER. I STARTED USING IT AROUND 1956 AS MY MUM COULD NEVER GET THE SUBJECT OF HER SHOT INTO FRAME!!! THEY ARE SELLING ONLINE FOR VARIOUS PRICES, EVEN NON FUNCTIONAL, RANGING FROM $90.00 TO OVER $300.00. I BELIEVE THIS WAS HER FIRST CAMERA SO PROBABLY MADE IN THE EARLY 1900S. NORMA NOW IS AT PEACE AS IS CROFT. IT WILL BE A TOUGH ADJUSTMENT FOR HIM NOW. SAFE TRAVELS.

We are always so happy to be able to be allowed to do something to help you. You are a very independent lady. I hope to see you in Edmonton later this summer. Fingers crossed.

Love the candelabras! Love your dress – my favorite one ever. Any chance you’d share the fish chowder recipe? It looks delicious! I’m sure it is. Continued safe travels!

Ahh thank you. I love the material, it is so cool in Mexico and I am going to get more of this style of dress. Perfect of travel and for the Isla. I will get you the recipe but if I forget please remind me.
