A long day that became even longer

Woke up cold at 7AM this morning with 20F/-6.6C.  All vehicle windshields were frosted over as well as many RV windshields. We got lucky and  had no frost on ours vehicles.  Maybe because of the slight different direction we were facing.

The power in the park went out for a while this morning due to a camper flipping off the breaker for the entire park.  Colin managed to get us back on track despite being very cold heading up to the office.  No one else cared to check out the issue.

Lovely snow scenes for most of the day.

No idea where the red colour came from but most striking.

Welcome to Idaho. So many stickers on the sign that you can barely see ‘Idaho’.

Last April we decided  to turn off onto HWY 30 to get back to I84.   Today we went back through Twin Falls and over to I84.  We wanted to check which was longer or quicker.  Turns out that via Twin Falls it was an extra 4.2 miles but we arrived at our destination for the night about 45 minutes earlier.

Everything is so very green.

So very many calves have been born recently.  We can see the wee ones laying next to their mom.  Difficult to take a photo while driving.  The babies are mere dots in the photo. But so special to see them all.

Our first bit of precipitation. About 20 minutes worth.

Oregon already!!  We are spending the night in the Visitor Centre, just a mile into Oregon.  Free wifi!!!  But slow this year.  No worries, I still have some GB’s left on my ATT hot spot device.

As we were settling in it was impossible to not notice this semi driver.  He had first washed his hair and now he was washing his feet.  Perhaps he just woke up from a deep sleep.  About ten minutes later he was off, heading north.

So we drove 435 miles today and arrived here about 45 minutes earlier than last year.  However this year we have a battery issue.  We just became aware of this once we arrived.  Not quite sure what it is but is appears to be related to our six volt batteries.  Perhaps we need new ones.  Erik our RV tech is unavailable at the moment due to personal reasons so we went with our next best consultant, Alan.  He and Colin had a long chat and somehow came to a decision.  We need to spend more money and get new batteries.  Maybe???  I also got to chat with Laura and Alan for a few moments.  Special thanks to Rae who tried to contact Erik for me from within Mexico, to no avail.

Long story short we got the generator going by using the engine battery and were able to bring in our bedroom side.  So now we won’t be putting the slides out until we get back home.  Just a bit of Colin having to crawl over me to get into and out of bed 😉

It was supposed to be a relaxed stop for the night.  Not.  However now at 9PM we are ready to make dinner, have showers and go to bed.  Beyond tired 🙄

PS……… I am not proof reading so I hope this makes some sense to you.

YOU DON’T NEED THE SLIDES FREEZING IN THE OUT POSITION. AND IF YOU ARE COLD WHEN COLIN HAS TO CLIMB OVER YOU, YOU CAN CUDDLE FOR A WHILE AND WARM UP.!!!BEAUTIFUL SNOWY MTNS BUT LET’S HOPE THEY MELT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER. GOING THROUGH TWIN FALLS DOES SAVE TIME. BETTER HIGHWAY. HOPE YOU GOT THE BATTERY SITUATION SOLVED. HAD WE KNOWN, MY BATTERY PLACE HERE WOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT FOR YOU. I JUST GOT 3 BATTERIES A FEW DAYS BEFORE YOUR ARRIVAL. BE SAFE AND KEEP WARM.

“Just a bit of Colin having to crawl over me to get into and out of bed.” LOL! I can certainly sympathize with that. Beach seems to have to make more trips to the bathroom than I do in the middle of the night; our Hi-Lo camper has one way into our queen size bed and one way out, and sometimes he tries to hop over me and misses and I end up with a bony knee in my abdomen. Since I will be waking up anyway, I’ve determined that I may as well get up and let him into his side of the bed. At least your bed situation is only temporary. Maybe I could teach him pole vaulting. Ha!

    Hola, Amiga,

Given your current position in Oregon, I doubt you have plans to stop again so soon for an overnight at the Valley River Center Mall in Eugene this year. But just in case, I thought I would let you know that I have heard they stopped allowing RVs to overnight there. Such a pity, as it was a lovely place to spend a couple of nights along the way….

    Safe travels home,
    Suzanne

Gracias. No we are not heading West but North. We spent the night literally on the Idaho/Oregon border. When we used to stay at the Valley Centre Mall in Eugene we were heading North via I5 and heading to Vancouver. The past few years we are heading straight up. Sad to hear about that are being shut off to RVers.

Sometimes the shortest rout is not the quickest, But now you can relax for the evening. and get some new house batteries soon. Continued safe travels.

So very true. Will it almost was a relaxing evening except for the shattered dinner plates. We will wait until we get home to sort out the battery issue.
