Bamboo sheets
We needed to buy a new set of sheets as the ones we had were wearing out. They are great sheets but we got them so long ago that I have have no idea where they came from nor what type they are. All the tags are worn off so I can’t order them again I had heard wonderful things about bamboo sheets and when we saw lovely soft, silky bamboo sheets for sale at the Alburqueque Ballon Fiesta we bought a set. I washed them last week and put them on the bed. They were nice and soft but slippery. Colin thought that they were too hot but was willing to give them chance. Today I took them off the bed and washed them again. Always wash in cold water and tumble dry on low. Which takes forever but I was careful and followed the instructions. As we remade the bed a while ago we saw that they are already pilling. Not good.
We heard a loud thump on the roof this morning. It was a few geese. They must weight a lot. For certain they are loud.
So I ask you what sheets have you found that are perfect and where did you get them from? I have been on a hunt now for a few years. I prefer sheets with a high thread count and tend to like sateen and Egyptian cotton. But I might be off the charts. I would love your input. Please 🙂
Mystery solved.
Today was clear but cool. I got a lot done on the year end and if I am lucky I will finish it tomorrow. I need to balance the entire year, all the deposits must equal all the expenses and balance. If I am out by only $5.00 I won’t do any more. I had to call my accountants assistant three times about a GST ( tax ) issue and then later in the day call GST itself. I only held 45 minutes, not too bad. I did three loads of laundry today and was able to put things away while on hold. Colin had errands to run for part of the day, including picking up my library books, so no more iPad in the bath.
Our new neighbour is cementing his entire yard. There must have been at least six cement trucks there through the day. I just don’t understand why the truck drives over the rebar and that the cement was just poured over the it. I thought rebar was supposed to be in the middle of the cement . They did not lift the rebar.

I don’t have a particular brand of sheets I use but I always buy a high thread count. I got a new set this winter from Sam’s Club and I love them … not that that will help you here at home 🙂
Do you remember the thread count and if they are pima or sateen?
We use flannel sheets most of the year and some high thread count cotton ones in the summer, we bought at the flea market 3 years ago. We are no help either.

Contessa good quality sheets, usually expensive, will probably will be worth it over the long run. I learnt that cheap sheets make you hate them. From experience, I purchased a duvet set from Ikea because I liked the colours and it was good priced. However, I have to iron them or else they look horrible when out of the dryer. What’s the saving if you have to use electricity and labor to iron them?
These bamboo sheets were expensive but just don’t seem to be what we want. The thing is I can spend a huge amount o money on sheets and they can be bad, huge waste of money. So love how my readers have great suggestions. Thanks for your thoughts. It adds to my research.
I feel for you but soon tax season will be behind you. I only have our personal to do in turbotax – got our slips yesterday but I’ve added money somewhere accidentally and now can’t take it out (bloody hell) so that is stopping me up. I like bamboo socks and tshirts but never had sheets. I’ve bought costco sheets – they are just ok. Amazon might be the best – read the reviews maybe? One time a few years ago I found really good nice Egyptian sheets like you are talking about at Homesense but never found a similar quality again.
I love my bamboo pants, capris, skirts ( 2 ) and sweater that I wear constantly. But the sheets have a totally different feel. More of a silky feel. I spent days reading sheet reviews and especially bamboo sheets which is why we bought them. I also made certain that they were 100% bamboo.
I bought a set of sheets at our local $$ store. Thought they were bamboo.
Turns out they were poly, brand name Bamboo.

Which is when I looked at the label and saw poly.

Hmm, interesting. I have never seen sheets in a dollar store. Must be a high end store. No pilling is great.
My previous set of sheets
were 100% cotton high thread count,
at Sears for big$$$. Did not like them at all.
$Store sheets were $30 including pillow cases.
Who knew?
I would not have knowingly bought poly.

High thread count is always the nicest. Although I have a set of Jersey Knit sheets that I like but they stretch out a bit and require bed sheet holders now. Still I like ’em.
Tax season is almost over and soon you will be free for another year!!!! I wonder if it wouldn’t be possible to have some of those things emailed to you in Mexico so you could do a bit of catching up while you’re there over the winter months. Even a day here and there would be helpful to you by the time you arrive back home. Keep up the good work!!!
I think that Jersey Knit would be too hot for us. Yes tax season is now over. Well until our accountant gets back to me about how much I owe. The thing is that I need so much paperwork to complete the year end that it is just not worth ever trying to do any in Mexico. A good thought but not for me. I realized today that I have been doing this for 25 years, ugh!!! And I likely will for at least another seven years as we slowly close the company out.
I’ve been very happy with Kirkland brand (from Costco) sheets purchased here in Mexico. Pima cotton, no permanent press treatment (which makes them slippery) and 540 threads per square inch. I read somewhere (maybe Consumer Reports ?) that higher than 500 thread count was unnecessary. YMMV.
Pima cotton is very good. I will have to look into this. That you so very very much for your input. It really does help.
The experts say anything over 600 is overkill. Like my clothes, I buy my sheets from Walmart. We use 400 thread count and then in the winter, flannel. I could use flannel all year round, feels better than anything else.
The thing is some 400 thread count are still not good and feel heavy and scratchy and pill. So many sheets and so little money to find the right set.
I bought Better Homes and Garden sheets at Walmart, 400 thread count; they are the roughest sheets and they wrinkle horribly when dried. They were made in India. Only used them a couple of times as they just seemed to cling to our jammies and we wrestled all night when trying to turn over. It sure was a bad decision and a waste of money. You can get the higher thread count sheets at Kohl’s that are soft and much nicer. Watch for them on sale.
Oh Sandy, so glad that you chimed in. I will for certain be sure to check out Kohl’s. Hope that you are settling in back home after your trip to Mexico.
We too love the high thread Egyptian satin sheets although in very cold times flannel is nice and comfy. As far as taxes go – the great news is in another month we won’t have to worry about it other than when good old Revenue Canada reassesses us and then months later learn they made the mistake not us – we are still waiting for reimbursement after we paid them only to learn we were correct.
Good luck with the CRA refund. I have had Egytian cotton sheets but not the Egytian satin sheets. I will have to research that as well. Thanks so much for you input.
I’m really fussy about my sheets! These have been my favorites for years now. Lands End 400 Ct Supima Cotton Sateen. The white ones with the basket weave embroidered pattern on ends of pillow cases and top sheet. The only difficulty we have is that husband has restless leg so eventually the bottom sheet tears from his moving feet. Expensive but almost always LE has a sale. No need to iron them. No need for special washing or treatment. No pilling. Love them! Lynn in Kingston NY

Regarding the concrete pouring: I often see one workman who seems to be doing nothing, but if watch him for a while, he has a a rod something like a fireplace poker. He will reach down under the concrete and lift the rebar after it is covered with concrete, then shake it a bit so that the concrete will flow under the rebar and hold it up. He only has to do it about every 3 ft. If it is a large slab, they either drive the truck over the rebar, or they have to dump in wheelbarrows or concrete carts and push them by hand. Lots of labor and time involved.
Interesting. Maybe I did not watch closely enough. However when they poured our concrete, I was watching and they did not do that and we have lots of cracks.

We have had Bamboo sheets for several years that my wife picked up at Pharmasave Drug Store ,they have been great , She was in the Pharmasave this week and saw them on sale again for $14.00 for queen set. Haven’t put them on the bed yet but if they are as good as the ones we have on the bed now we will be 100% satisified.
Welcome to the comment section of my blog Gary. Pharmasave!!! I never even knew that they sold sheets. I will have to look into that sooner than later. I really need to touch them and ‘feel’ how they feel. Please let me know how the new set turns out.
These are the sheets we bought ,,we put them on the bed a couple of days ago and they are everv bit as nice as the last ones ,, I beleave they are the same make as the other bamboo sheets that we have.
We are very happy with them . They are Bamboo 2500 and they come on a round plastic bag.

hi i have been buying my last 3 sheet sets from macys -online–my favorite are the charter club 550 threadcount supima cotton.
beautiful colors and always feel so fresh .they always go on sale too-when i just looked they have the sets i buy-queen-.on sale today–supima is the cotton you want to choose.

I love the sheets on my bed now, but couldn’t remember where I bought them. They are high thread count, and nice and soft and smooth. I checked the label, and they are Amazon “Basic.” Very reasonable, $19.95 for a queen set that fits a 14″ foam mattress. I was shocked when I read they are 100% polyester! From checking Amazon right now, I think they are brushed microfiber. The soft top layer of the mattress makes them a little hard to keep nice and tight over the mattress.
