The geese are winning
This morning I was awoken by an extremely loud nasal honking. There was a goose directly above my bed on the roof. Time to wake up 😮 No choice as the noise was strident. Sometimes as I am just waking up I hear a heavy thump. Often it is one or two geese and sometimes three. The sound is blaring. For some unknown reason they love to sit high on our roof and make their presence known.
One left a calling card the other day. Always a mess to clean up.
This morning we caught one creeping up the stairs from the beach. One step at a time and a cautious surveillance of the area.
It finally got to the patio.
Colin sprang into action. When the girls were still with us we would call out “Caeli, birdie” and she would jump up and dash out the patio door barking loudly to chase the geese away. She did a great job. Now it is up to us to go after them. The last three photos were taken form inside the house.
Al over at the Bayfield Bunch has an ongoing battle with squirrels while ours is with geese. Nature does give us challenges from time to time.

You and Colin have the geese to contend with, the Bayfield Bunch has the squirrels, and we have the racoons which are attempting to take our tomatoes and blue berries. They are becoming too numerous with a direct path to the blue berry bushes from the river marsh. Also, they have become too friendly when I take grocery bags out of the car they come up to me and beg on two legs. What should I do with them? Because racoons are the animals most prevalent to spread rabies this time of year.
Oh Dee, I had to smile at the vision of the raccoons standing on their hind legs begging for your groceries. Certainly a serious situation. We have had to try nd ever them when we lived in a suburb outside of Vancouver. But your situation seems dire. I hope that you can come up with a solution. Hugs.
Hmm you are going to have a heck of a mess to clean up when you return from Europe.
You are correct George but we are working on step two to stop them.
When we lived in Sherwood Park Alberta the house overlooked a pond – the geese would land on our roof too. Also woodpeckers would occasionally peck on our metal chimney, made such a racket but didn’t do any damage fortunately
We have woodpeckers a few blocks away and they do wake me up every now and then with they incessant pecking.
We have geese, squirrels and flickers. The geese stay in the field eating grass, the squirrels are dispatched if they get close to the house (the forest goes on forever around us for their habitat) and the flickers are dispatched if the are in the pole barns ripping out the tar paper under the metal roofing. Plenty of room here in the country for them…and us. There are bears, the odd deer or moose, coyotes, marten and the occasional marmot. No issues if they all behave themselves. Now if we could just get the neighbors to keep their loose dog at home!
Always the dog on the loose. What a pain! Other than that, your location sounds ideal.
The geese don’t even budge when I walk by them in the morning!
Seriously! They must be used to people. Hopefully they are not coming up and pooping on all your RV sites.
There is a small creek that runs by the development where we live and some geese have made it home in a place where the water has pooled. We see them feeding on the grass across the large fields behind our house and last summer we watched their young grow into adults. For some reason we have had more “fly overs” this year in our neighborhood and what they leave behind on the fly overs shows on the streets and some of the houses. It is a love/hate relationship that we have but they do entertain.

Glad you got the luggage repaired for your trip. Definitely a sturdier wheel.
Possibly erecting a small fence and gate will keep the geese off your patio while you are gone. Very Acidic Waste.
