Mommio update
Without going into too much detail it appears that Mommio has had a bladder infection likely for the past two weeks. However it was serious enough to change her personality. From here I diagnosed that she was in pain and perhaps had an infection. This has happened before. We insisted on a call to the facility doctor which was done. In addition to antibiotics once they did a urine test, they were going to give her something for the pain. She has been in bed since Colin arrived yesterday afternoon and mostly in a very deep sleep.
We aren’t sure that she recognized him yesterday but for certain she knew he was there today. She continued to sleep for most of the day. I believe that her body was exhausted from fighting this infection. I was going to hire someone to come in today to do a full blood panel but apparently she had blood drawn on September 26th. No where near perfect results but not bad at all considering. They are coming in to do blood again Thursday and the doctor is coming to see her on Friday.
Mommio woke up for a few moments and took Colin’s hand and fell asleep again.
Colin spent the day sitting at her bedside talking to her a bit even as she slept and a few times she woke up and smiled when she saw him. He also played his guitalele for her. She appeared to be calmer and more relaxed. In a few hours she will be getting her third dose of antibiotics. Hopefully they will kick in sooner than later so that Colin can have some quality time with Mommio.
Later when she woke up she gave him a big smile and said to him “I love you. You’re the last one. Be happy”. She smiled for this photo and went back to sleep.
Such a change from when he saw her 4.5 months ago. She is not eating but did have a drink of the protein drink Resource. I don’t know how much she drank. Colin plans on staying with her till later in the evening, perhaps as long as they will let him.
This is not an easy time for either of them and most certainly not an easy visit for Colin. Meanwhile I sit here waiting for a text, an email or a phone call. I am doing the best I can to advise from here but it is not the same as being there.
Before posting I asked Colin to check this post. He asked me to add the following photo, taken the end of August 2018, just before we left for Alburqueque. What a difference a year makes.

Hi contessa, sorry to hear Mommio is so sick, is she hospitalized ? Is she getting IV antibiotics ? P.O. ATB, are way too slow to build up & to kill the bugs ( U know this, u’are a nurse ). Best of luck to Mommio & U 2. God bless. My regards: Lucy.
She is on comfort care which means that she will not be moved form the nursing home to a hospital. The goal is to simply make her comfortable which I believe that the facility neglected. there is no IV meds where she is. We are in a very difficult situation with her. At least she is getting pain meds now.
As most ladies will know, these types of infections really take a lot out of you. Our prayers are with all of you for a full recovery for Mommio.

Looks like mommio is finally getting some care things should clear up.

That is so sad. I really hope she is able to come around enough to enjoy Colin’s visit.
She will be so disappointed if she doesn’t.
Makes you wonder if Colin had not shown up what would have happened. Do the other sibblings not keep track of her ? Obviously cannot leave it to the nursing home.
Fortunately today was a much better day for them to be able to chat. I asked Colin the same thing, what would have happened. It is just act we are aware that it was not her normal behaviour and my idea about the infection. But I might not have thought about it. There is just the one brother there and they come as much as they can. One almost needs to have someone there with her 24/7. I will never go into a home and plan to have. hospital bed right here in our home. Colin and a visiting nurse had homeware will look after me.

#2, this is medical neglect
#3, this is neglect of fiduciary responsibility of the person who is the medical POA
#4, this is Medical fraud if that home she is in is collecting funds and NOT providing proper care
Here is the states, especially here in Arizona I would have called in the state already amongst a few… How hateful that home is.
Praying for Colin’s momma… for all of you. This is terrible to say the least.
I appreciate your comment Kay but it is a bit strong. I will go with medical neglect. There just are not enough staff to cope with the patients. That is why they will put someone in a wheel chair at the front desk so that they can easily keep an eye on them but they don’t take into consideration the cost of sitting for so long as to how it affects the patient. There are not enough staff to check on a patient in the room. I could do on and on. I do agree with you on everything you say but what is the answer. As an RN I have been seeing for years and years. It breaks my heart.
So sad Contessa and I’m sure so very hard for Colin. i’m sure he is glad he is there but I’m also sure he was also hoping for a much different visit. I hope Mommio recovers and gets stronger by the day. Our prayers are still with you all.
It is very difficult especially for Colin. he has been up and done the scale of emotions these past few days.
The reaction time to Mommio’s health issues sure seems a bit long to me. A DR visit not until Friday just seems way too long. Prayers for the meds to start working and better health for her so she can enjoy her visit with Colin. This is an anxious time for all of you. Sending hugs of comfort.
In a hone like this often they only see a doctor once per month so once per week is pretty good.
Contessa, Mommio seems to have knowledge of her surroundings; therefore, I wonder if she would respond to audio books using ear phones. I used them with Dad when he lost his eyesight (It was a downer when he could not read anymore.); I could hear him chuckle when he listened to them, so I knew he was absorbing what the reader was saying. He liked old Zane Grey westerns with a little excitement and light-hearted and funny audios by Lewis Grizzard (journalist for the “Atlanta Constitution”) entitled “Shoot Low Boys,They’re Riding Shetland Ponies” and “Elvis is Dead, and I Don’t Feel So Good Myself.” Never much depth to his books, but he liked westerns and comedy. These audios keep the mind active and following a story line, and we even discussed the books and their characters, and he was not napping as much. If Colin remembers the books Mommio read in her younger days, when she rebounds from this illness, she might get some stimulation from listening to her favorite book audios. However, her eating needs to improve to get well, God bless her.
How wonderful that you did that for your Dad. Mommio was not a reader but she loves music. Perhaps we can get that set up for her to listen to. Thanks for you input.
Please let Colin know that the three of you are in our thoughts as his mum recovers.
Even in the picture without her makeup, she is a very beautiful woman. She’ll be back from this, I just know.

It truly did mean a lot to both of them. We don’t know now if she even recalls that he was there.
