“Monday, Monday, so good to me” …
It was a lovely day but there is a storm approaching. More rain.
All the palms are getting taller which means that we all are getting less shade. We along with many others put up our beach umbrella. In our case three pieces of rebar surrounding the umbrella base and then many zip ties to hold it into place re the wind, etc.
We got our cuties, as I call them, up.
Some of you may remember that we lost the small ball of this threesome last December due to an RV neighbours off leash cat. This had been a Christmas gift from Colin in 2017 and I loved it and the colours. The best I could come up with was this teal ball, a piece of art itself.
Next on Monday’s to do list was to sort out our wine. That involved bringing it all out.
Quite the process storing it in the basement, lots of storage behind the stair area.
Ta-da! My haul for this winter. The white and blue boxes, top left, were brought here directly from Canada. They were declared but no tax needed to be paid. Each box holds 5 and 1/4 bottles of top notch B.C. Peller Estates Proprietor’s Reserve Pinot Grigio which happens to be one of our two house wines back home. Four larger boxes held 4 boxes of wine. A great way to travel to Mexico with wine. It takes up so little space.
The rest of the wine was purchased in the US. Not always an easy task to find good wines at reasonable prices. A few cases were the cheaper but good SB from Charles Shaw and other more expensive wines. Even more difficult was to create an even mix of these wines which ended up being about a 16 day or more rotation. Some years we have had an excess and I have sold the wine to others before we left for the same price that I paid. Last year I was right on and we had the exact amount of wine needed until we crossed into Canada. It was a hot and humid day and Colin kept hauling wine cases all over the place. I brought 4 sets into the RV and he had to put the rest back into the basement but they were a mixed box which will be easy to pull out as needed. At least we now have a variety of Pinot Grigios and Sauvignon Blancs to enjoy over a 2.5 week period before the next set commences. I love the New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc ( the bright green caps ) that we were able to get at the Vegas Costco. We had much better luck in getting a variety of wonderful wines last fall in Alburqueque. I am happy with what I have and the mix is good.

Ismael came and planted our three new bougainvillea. Of course we can mange to do this ourselves but this is a way to give some extra money to him and his family.

My GOD, that is a lot of wine. How many glasses a day do you drink?. The flowers are beautiful! I am curious about something. Is this a space that you rent, or do you own the space?
We rent the space, it is in an RV park called Tres Amigos RV Park on Stone Island aka as Isla de la Piedra. We are asked in February if we intend to return and if so we pay a one month deposit. You can do whatever improvements you want with the understanding that you don’t own them. So we built our palapa and all the plants and trees you see were planted by us. We pay $600.00US per month plus metered electric.
Contessa I knew you had wine flowing through your veins 😉 ha ha, from our boating years I can understand the hoarding of goods to bing along because you cannot get those at your next destination, or at a very expensive price. I did that with meats and other food items but also on our yacht we could put a lot of weight in it versus our small travel trailer that we cannot overload. Your RV site down in Mexico always looks nice.
I have always told Colin that when I am near the end that if I can’t drink wine that he has to feed me a glass via stomach tube every evening.
When in the U.S., check out Total Wine -nice store with a great selection of wine, mixers, and hard liquor and very reasonable prices, I always buy my box wine there. Salud!
Not sure if you mentioned this to me or someone else did. I will make a point of it next year. Perhaps we will check it out when we have a few days in Vegas as we head north. The thing is I like to try the wine before I purchase in bulk so I can’t have too many open boxes.
I live in Sun City West here in Arizona. Total Wine here is at Arrowhead Mall-the northeast side (not in the mall itself). A 20 minute drive for me.

I have a question about the bc wine you brought,declared and didn’t pay duty on.Is it because it was bc wine and you are transiting through or could you have brought wine from US previously,now taking back through to Mexico

Yes it is. A lovely SB wine. They only had a few cases when we were there or I would have purchased more. It is as the discretion of the border agent to charge us or not. I only started bringing BC wine with me when I heard of someone else doing so a few years ago. The duty is only 10 cents per bottle, well worth the price to bring BC wine with us. Not quite sure what you are asking in your last sentence. No matter if we were transiting to Mexico or staying in the US we might have had to pay duty on the BC wine. If they catch you with wine coming into Mexico they may or may not surge you Mexican duty, likely they will. All I can say is that they don’t look for alcohol other than in your fridge. But I could be wrong. We don’t leave our wine in plain view.

Well that is wine from October 25th to April 1st for us and for guests.
