They are out to get us!

Monday was massage day and a day for me to try and get my body working again.  We had a quick impromptu sunset happy hour with our friends before the bugs sent us inside.

During ant patrol on Monday night Colin found a bunch of ants coming into our yard, over the wall carrying foliage from something on the other side of the wall.  He tracked them to a new nest in our yard and sprayed them.

Tuesday morning had us heading into Mazatlan for my second chiropractic appointment.  We were sitting in one lancha and  I noticed that the next one over had some Christmas decorations.  So nicely laid out and the first time I have seen one of the boats decorated.

I am going to gloss over my treatment. Suffice to say that the chiropractor and I were not on the same page and she really did not seem to be helping me.  Plus she was bullying me.  I was rather down when we came back home.  This Carnival ship was in port.  There were supposed to be three ships in on Tuesday but only one came in.

I can’t describe how shocked we were once we got home, to see one of my new and favourite hibiscus totally stripped of blooms and leaves.

And the one next to it half stripped.  What the heck?  Ants or a dreaded iguana.

Then mid afternoon I spied pieces of red and green moving along my brick edging next to the garden which is along that dreaded wall.  The read arrows show some of the ants eating my newly planted ( two days ago ) bougainvillea.  Colin got them all and even followed them to yet another nest in our garden.  Sprayed that also.

I was relieved to be able to sit and enjoy some Pinot Grigio during happy hour.  Enough stress for one day.

Happy hour was supposed to be because of the three cruise ships in port.  I found out today from Sue ( dancing Sue ) that she also had a happy hour for the three ships.  Oh well, next time.  It is not often that we have three in port at the same time.

Adios.  I hope that they all enjoy Puerto Vallarta as much as they did Mazatlan.

As someone who is recovering from a knee replacement, I have read about your problem knee. I suspect you have damaged ligaments and/or underlying arthritis and cartilage loss. Try to find a reputable orthopedic surgeon to get that knee properly evaluated. I bought nearly a year’s time before needing surgery with a series of 3 hylauronic acid injections in each knee. Pain relief in hours, and hopefully it will hold you until you get back home if you need surgery. A chiropractor can do nothing. Good luck!

Thank you for this email Gail. If things do not improve within a week I will be getting X-rays, etc. Last I checked my knew were both fine, about two years ago, but you never know.

I was surprised to see the 3 ships in port yesterday, Wednesday, I too thought they were supposed to be her on Tuesday. Wonder what happened.
There is a white powder that kills the leaf cutter ants – will try to find out its name. Last year during all the construction they striped every plant and tree in this campground. This year so far haven’t see any.
    Hope you knee improves.
do you read the Mazatlan Post – they published, without letting me know – one of my blogs!!!

  3. Sad that you go to all he trouble of fixing things up not only for yourselves but Santa and the Ants are destroying it. You might have to keep the plants elevated. Hope you win the battle.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It’s about time.

  4. That is too bad that you have an ant invasion. For a while we had ants coming up on our hummingbird feeder until I oiled the stand and they would slip off. Maybe an ant killer powder on a saucer where the plant is sitting on or strewn around the rim of the pot might help?
Have you considered an insole for the sandal of the leg that is bothering you? Just trying to be helpful 🙂

Yes we do the same with out hummer feeder, I use Vaseline. We actually us that on all of our RV cords as well so no ants get inside the RV.

  5. Bloody ants! Might be a losing battle with your plants, unfortunately. At least you got a nice wine filled sunset.

Yeah to the sunset but not so happy with the critters. At this point we are just going to monitor day by day but I am not replacing any more plants for a while.
