5C's Que Pasa

I am so very tired of being up early every morning.  Like from 4:30AM to 6:00AM.  I can hardly wait to get back to my home and into a 14 day self isolation period where I can sleep as much as I want to 😆  Read what I want to, do what I want to and even go for a walk away from everyone else.

Meanwhile we had rain overnight and woke up Wednesday morning to very very wet shoes.  We had become so used to leaving under a palapa and forgot to take our shoes and doormat inside.

We purchased an item back in November at RV Lifestyles but they did not have time to install it for us before we left Q.  So yesterday was the day.

We finally purchased our version of a Mr. Buddy.  This is a HearthRite, 10,000 BTU per hour.

This is the model that we purchased.  We chose the unit that emits the heat all over the room as opposed to the model that directs the heat directly to you. So this one heats the room instead of just an area.  It was a 2 – 4 hour install be we were done in two hours, mostly because there was only the one area that it could be installed in, which we were very happy with.

They did have RV toilet paper for sale but with a limit of 3 per customer at $4.30 US per package of four.

Next stop was to top up our propane.  We use electric to run the fridge and to heat our water while in Mexico.  So we only used 6.52 gallons all winter.  Good deal.  We paid .16US per kW that we used.  As you can see it was a dreary and wet day.  I was in the Jeep as we thought that we might take off and do things while the install was happening but ended up staying in case of a location change which did happen.

We returned to the RV park and set up yet once again.  We took a break for lunch and then some music for Colin and of course more computer time for me.  At the moment I am checking the CNN live updates re the coronavirus situation.  That site can be found here.

We thought that we should check out the five small food stores in Quartzsite as there might be more of a choice.  Not true!

Slim pickings but we did score 8 double rolls of toilet paper and some canned veggies.

Dollar General was where we did the best although they did have a three package maximum on paper goods ( they were the only one with pair good in the town ). However there was no milk nor eggs to be had. We did check out the other four stores but we found nothing else to buy.

Our next stop was to fill a low tire on the Jeep.  Poor Colin ended up getting sopping wet due to a cloud burst about 2 minutes after I took this photo. It was truly a miserable day between the rain and the wind. In the end he refilled all four tires.

Once back at the RV, the thing we did was hook up the car so we could make an easier departure in the morning.  At 7PM Colin went out and put our satellite dish away after our last show taped. Of course it started to rain yet again.  Colin ended up totally wetting two fleece tops.  Why did he not wear his waterproof jacket 😯

There was some good news today in the Coronavirus situation in that the Canadian government has delayed the due date for personal and business taxes plus the date that the monies are to be paid by.  A very small personal victory.

$75.60USD scored us eight double TP rolls, a large package of paper towels ( which can be cut up to use as toilet paper if needed ),  a large bottle of bleach, hand soap, Kaboom ( some sort of cleanser but not sure if antibacterial ), seven tins of tuna, four cans of veggies, two cans of diced tomatoes, two jars of pasta sauce ( I have lots of pasta onboard already ) and someone managed to snag a package of chocolate chocolate cookies.  I plan to steal a few eventually.

Not a lot of items but a start of what we need towards our 14 day self isolation period. What a long day.  We now know Quartzsite more than ever before.  Another long day with a very late dinner of salmon burgers ( had those in the freezer already ) but a treat with a real burger bun and tomato and pickle and lettuce ( all purchased in Mexico before we left ).

So happy to get to bed for close to six hours of sleep as Thursday was going to be another long day.  Stay tuned.

Here is yet another explanation regarding this virus.  Easy to understand the que pasa of it all. This is a copy paste from something I was sent. I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with all of the articles that I share here with you but it is food for thought.

Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand…

It has to do with RNA sequencing…. I.e. genetics.

Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year… you get immunity two ways…through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.

Novel viruses, come from animals…. the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans… then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

Now…. sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human… once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..

H1N1 was deadly….but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.

Fast forward.

Now, here comes this Coronavirus… it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long…but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person… But here is the scary part…. in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”

This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity…doctors have no known medicines for it.

And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..

That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza…. this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater…And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L….which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.

We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.

Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed…(honestly…I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation…

And let me end by saying….right now it’s hitting older folks harder… but this genome is so slippery…if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.
