A walk in the gardens and beyond
Part of our community gardens. The wired screens on top of the garden boxes are to prevent quail and whatever from eating the new growth.
And from the opposite corner.
For the first time ever there is a very long list of those wanting to garden. I suspect that because of the pandemic folks want to grow their own veggies. This far corner is being cleared to add some more plots.
They have already added these small boxes for those who will take a small garden.
Something is dining in this garden plot.

This is not our garden but I do hope that Mr. Snake does not come to visit us.
We have an artist here in the park that enjoys building things incorporating stained glass. This is a bird house that has been in the gardens for a few years.
Just this spring he added a new one. This lovely birdhouse is very close to our wee garden plot and I was so pleased to see a chickadee emerge from it the other day.
I am in love with this tree. This colour of magnolia is my favourite.
At this time of year I make a point of passing by as often as I can.
We walked to the far end of the park, closer to the highway and only because of the excellent telephoto on my camera could we see these painted turtles. Colin was the first to spy a shiny colour down in the marsh area.
Hard to see because of the distance but a lovely shot with lots of colour. Next time we will take one of his cameras.
Interesting colour in the sky as well as the lake. Just another fun day here in our summer paradise.

It’s about time.
Just to be clear that was not our garden that was being munched but the same one that the snake was in. We keep a mesh cover as the seedlings come up. I did a tiny bit of munching on my kale, likely by quail.
So many creatures – love the painted turtles. It’s nice the park is making the garden area a bit larger for those who want to. I guess in other years everyone is off traveling so not the demand
You might recall that we had our first garden plot the past two summers and were gone mid May to mid June the first year and came home to tons of weeds and the same thing last summer, except we were gone to Europe for six weeks. Things will be very different for us this summer being here the entire time. I might have to lean how to can some veggies.
Tomato juice is very easy to can and so good have on hand to add to soups. It has been a while since I have canned any but still remember how good it tastes.
Thanks for the canning tip. We usually end up eating all of our tomatoes but this year we have planted even more so canning might be next. I better buy some canning supplies before they start to runout like toilet paper.
