Guess who’s 70?

Yesterday, Wednesday, July 22nd, Colin celebrated a special birthday. Not only because of Covid but because we simply wanted to, we spent the entire day, just the two us, having a fun time.  While Colin went out to pick up his cake ( more about that later ), I was able to set the scene for the rest of the day.

We started with a lovely champagne from Spain.

While he was out I had a short amount of  time to plate some special appetizers ( the last time I made these smoked salmon roll ups was for his 65th ), put up a banner and throw some presents ( after I pulled them out from various hiding spots ) into bags.

Again because of Covid and the fact that my car is still on storage insurance, I did not get out to shop. Plus I did not want to go out and shop. So I managed to pick a few things from Avon and from Amazon and the liquor store.

It looks like a lot but some gifts were simply a dustpan and brush, new silicone loaf pans for his banana bread and of course more fun socks, nothing too fancy, just fun.

Colin loves to open gifts and so I made sure he had lots to open.  It took over an hour. These are socks that look like a piano keyboard.

I even ordered two fancy KN95 masks that hopefully will help keep our glasses from fogging up.

I was able to order this and get it delivered in time. I think that Colin is truly aged to perfection.

The loot included stickers, a pineapple corer, two ladybug food tents, slippers, more socks and some wine and a guitar capo.  His was broken accidentally by a performer last winter, during one of our musical Monday afternoons on the Isla.

I very carefully refolded all the tissue I used so that we can use it yet again. Pretty colours.

Colin’s choice was to have Chinese take out for his birthday dinner. So when ready we called in the order and together drove the 25 minutes there and 25 minutes back, the food was still very hot once we got home. Again Colin’s choice was to watch a movie while we ate.  So we enjoyed our feast and not one but two movies. Quite the party. We finished just short of midnight. I told him that his birthday was ending in six minutes so to make the most of it 😆

This came from his fortune cookie.

Of course there was cake. For the first time ever we had a Dairy Queen ice cream cake. I had never tasted one before. The 7 lit and sparkled right away but the 0 did not want to light.

Colin had given up when suddenly it began to sparkle.

It was a fun day and we really did have a great time. At the end of the night we agreed that it had been a grand celebration.
