Happy Canadian Thanksgiving
It must seem strange to my American readers and friends but this is the weekend that Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving. The official holiday is Monday but Canadians just choose any day of this three day weekend to cook their turkey.
Colin and I just treat it as another day. Either we are late leaving for Mexico because Colin is working or we are packing the RV to head south. Today we worked in the garden, I can’t believe how much produce we are still growing and harvesting. Right now at 7:30PM here it is now pouring and I mean pouring rain out there. We did take a fun walk this afternoon, more on that in another post. I am trying to cook a special meal with three new recipes. I figure we will be eating by 9PM, about normal for us. So I am trying to make us a special Thanksgiving dinner. Fingers crossed.
We are thankful that we have a lovely house to enjoy for the winter and we continue to do all we can to keep it warm inside. I purchased extra fuzzy warm and cosy slippers from Costco for each of us and what a treat they are.
I took some photos the other day on my walk and just wanted to share some of the colours that we are seeing.

Autumn is an interesting season and we are so enjoying this year – well sort of 🙄
We are keeping to ourselves at the moment. Numbers are rising. My main concern is ‘What do others consider their bubble to be? ” It was great to visit outdoors but now it is becoming too wet or too cold to do so. Who do I invite inside of my home? There are not many that have as small of a bubble as we do. I have some wonderful friends here but they as well have special friends and when you look at this graphic it becomes clear. If everyone has different bubbles on each day of the week, I don’t think it is a good idea to invite them into my home. How are you handling this?

Now, food for thought: We are 7.5 BILLION people on planet Earth, there have being 1.2 MILLION deaths due to the Corona…are U good with math ? Get a calculator ( please ) and figure out the death %rate & tell us all if this is truly @ pandemia 😉 😉 😉

I don’t do math but I get your drift. Colin does the math and had pointed this out to me many times. It really does not matter the numbers. We each have to decide what is right for us and what we are comfortable with.
Love the colors of the leaves up there! We could use some of that rain, feel free to send some down here!

We had a sunny afternoon and I too worked in the garden. All my perennials are still growing but now is when I cut things down and mulch. Much easier than leaving it till spring. I pulled my Mexican squash plants that were still producing as we are overloaded. Thanksgiving next weekend as one grand daughter is getting over a cold and the other had been in Vancouver last weekend. Our daughter’s family and two of my friends are our bubble. In town once a week and very little else. We will do very little in Mazatlan this winter, mostly just keep to ourselves. Tough for everyone and we just have to do what feels right and try not to overload our healthcare system. Happy Thanksgiving!
What do you use for mulch? Good idea on finding a better day to celebrate Thanksgiving and likely your departure south. I like your bubble.
Sadly we have no one close to us here. However we are good on our own and plan to make the most of it. If miraculously things clear up we will head down to Mazatlan come April. We really need to pick up our generator.
I have lots of big birch trees in my big yard and their leaves along with grass clippings make good mulch. All through the growing season I dump grass clippings on the flower beds. Keeps the weeds down and makes the worms happy.
So it would be a good idea to add leaves to our garden before we turn the soil?
PS…I missed our Thanksgiving dinner…harvest crockpot stew/soup with our potatoes,carrots,leeks,garlic,baby squash and home canned beans. With beef but fish would work too!

Our bubble is us and Mom, always has been. We bbqed on Saturdays. It would be way tougher if the kids lived here. I did have a very socially distant (10 feet away with all of us masked up) socially distant visit with my best friend yesterday outside on our winter patio which is covered. Did I mention it was raining? Tea, blankets, fire table, touque and coats were required but we made it happen. People will be as careful as they want to be. My big exposure is being at the hospital multiple times a week. I wish everyone masked up there but many including staff do not. Everyone in the cancer unit does though, some nurses have 2 masks on, one overtop the other.
I knew that your bubble would be limited. However I have to say that I as a registered nurse ( RN ) am beyond upset that not all in the hospital are not wearing masks. Totally not acceptable. So happy for you that you got that very special socially distanced visit in. You made it happen!! Yes you do need to be extra cautious in other areas. The onus is on you. I am one thousand percent routing for you.

It’s a good thing that the weather is still on the mild side.
We try to limit who we are around including Friends and Family for just that reason. The biggest problem is Masking up to go shopping which totally puts us outside our bubble.

I think about those overlapping bubbles a lot. When I was staying inside all the time my bubble consisted only of me, my spouse, and our once a week housekeeper. How big is our housekeeper’s bubble? I have no idea. Now I go twice a week to the exercise room which is staffed by two people. How big are their bubbles? I have no idea. On the way to exercise I am required to stop at the front desk for a temperature check done by one of two people. How big are their bubbles? Well, they include everyone who comes through the front door and well as all the other residents who stop for a temperature check besides whoever they see outside of here. That suddenly sounds very big!
Thank you Linda. Yes once you get to thinking about all those bubbles it becomes rather unsettling. All you cam do is keep doing what you think is right for you. And please stay safe.
