Changes
According to my friend Cindy and her photo this morning, it appears that the demolition from the result of the September 7th fire has begun. Construction and new beginnings can’t be far off.
We heard a loud thunk this morning. Turns out that this downy woodpecker had hit one of our many windows and was extremely dazed. Colin picked it up and began to stimulate it. It began to breathe.
About 20 – 25 minutes later he put the bird on the ground and kept a close eye on it. It was a very long time before it could hold its head up and even longer before it began to hop along the grass.
Finally it flew about two yards to the tree. It was only two feet above the ground. About thirty minutes later is slowly climbed higher. Over an hour later it finally flew away, thanks to Colin the bird paramedic.
We are amazed at how we lucked out this winter.
The temperature actually rose to 5C/41F today. Higher than forecast. There is a very slight possibility of snow mixed with rain tonight. It certainly is not cold enough to freeze. The week ahead is full of warm temps during the day and perhaps 2 – 3 nights of just freezing. That brings us to the middle of January. Colin and I believe that the worst of the winter is over.
I am seriously agreeing with this graphic. Can we please fast forward to 2022?

Great job on reviving the woodpecker!
Colin did great things. He opened and closed the wings and pumped the chest a few times. It all ended the way it should have.
Aww Colins good deed melted my heart. Glad the little bird survived. Aren’t we all going to be glad once we got through this winter. I’m so looking forward to spring.
I would have been so sad if it had not made it. I am staring to plan my garden. Come on spring!
Way to go Dr. Colin! And great news to see progress on the restaurant, I was really hoping they would rebuild.

Good results from the Colin bird rehab frontman!! If they fly off, that’s good. I have a story or two about that kind of project, all done with the approval and advice from a bird rehabber, so it’s nce to hear a good result. (Actually, mine were too.) Looks like your snow has melted. Ours did too…or mostly, only what, 800 miles due south-southeast. I should look it up. That’s just wild guess. Anyway, down here in central Texas I still ahve a bit in my yard.

Colin raised parrots for a time over 38 years ago so he has some experience. I can’t believe that you still have snow.
Way to go Colin the bird whisperer.
Perhaps he has a new career in the wings!
