Good news…

…our fence is finally completed. Our materials were delivered the end of March 2021. But we waited like good neighbours to do the install of our section as this is the side we share. We wanted them to have a say in colour and in height. They originally wanted white and if they went with that we would simply have put our section of coloured fencing on this side of their white fence. However it all worked out. Then they had trouble getting their beige and adobe sections ( which we already had ) due to Covid. Everyone was buying fencing and there was not much left in anything but white. Just found out that white is all there will be until sometime in 2023.

Where should I start?

Our neighbours got lucky and their coloured ( someone had 2000 feet left in adobe ) was delivered this past Thursday the 14th. That just happened to coincide with the date we had arranged for our fence builder to install our 24′ of fencing on that side of our home. Because of the girls we could wait no longer. He completed that on the 14th and returned on Saturday to complete their section. So we now are fully fenced in on three sides.

A work in progress not made easy as the property on our west side is not level as it was on our east side.

What is not fenced in is the beachfront. Neither of the girls were supposed to be able to do stairs as per our decision. We wanted them only use ramps in order to prevent back issues as they grew older. If they did stairs then they likely would start to jump. Somehow Ciela taught herself to use stairs much to our chagrin and now she loves to jump. So she can get down to the beach easily but Colin brings Carlie down and up. It’s only fair that she gets to enjoy the sniffs on our rocky beach.

Ciela. She has walked along the rocks on both sides. She will need to be watched.

Carlie. It will be interesting to see if they want to go in the water once it is warmer. This certainly is not the Isla.

Neither of them were aware that there was a duck approaching. Mrs Duck was not at all shy.

Back up where they should be. We are using some of their pen fencing to block off the beach access for now. 3′ b y 6′, 5′ by 6′ and 6′ by 6′ is our section of the fencing.

It looks lovely and the six foot length runs to the front of our home street side. Colin piled up some of the rocks on the left closer to the lake so that they could not cross over to the neighbours. I am very interested in any ideas that you might have to stop them from going around the end of the fence. Something creative, pretty…any suggestions at all would be appreciated.

We are all tired of these temperatures.

Would it work to put a small trellis as an extension to the fence and plant something that would grow up it?
I’m impressed that the ducks weren’t scared; did the girls eventually notice the ducks?

It might be difficult to find a plant that could take the heat as well as the wind. However I was thinking of a large box/pot of petunias.

The fence looks great, and sadly the last photo is so appropriate!

Funny that the mallards snuck up without them noticing! Did they ever notice and scare them off?

    • contessa says:

No they did not react at all. On the Isla, their morning outdoor sunning took place only about three feet from our bird bath which was right on the ground. The birds and the doxies co existed peacefully. This might have something to do with their duck reaction.

Wasn’t water all the way up to almost the top of those rocks a few years ago?

    • contessa says:

Yes we were flooded totally in 2017 and just a bit in the flowing years. Thus far it appears that there will be little to no flooding.

  5. The Fence looks wonderful.
Surprised the pups didn’t notice the Ducks.
Have to agree with the Robin. We had Snow yesterday.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It’s about time.

I will be waiting with great interest to see how the girls are foiled in going around the fence….or not. Good luck! Dachshund creativity…….

Fence looks great and love the photos of the Girls exploring. I borrowed the last picture as we had about 3 inches of wet snow Monday and that little bird looks just like I feel. Snow is gone today but so cold and windy.
