Birthday #1

Josh, Pauline and of course Sequoia left Edmonton on Thursday May 19th.  A long day indeed and we first saw them on Friday May 20th – as per yesterday’s blog post.  They were staying about 25 minutes away in an Airbnb. I suggested that they start the day without us which they did with a visit to BC Tree Fruits Cider Tasting Bar. They then moved on to Sandhill Wines for a tasting. I was late as I was busy prepping our dinner. We met about 2:25PM at the Spirit of the Sail in downtown Kelowna. From there we walked along the promenade ( as best we could as there was a good deal of construction next to the beach area). We walked to HWY 97 and crossed under it to Mushroom Beach.

This is a small off leash dog area.  There is no fencing but the dogs can go as far as that private pier.

Our girls had a blast. Sequoia is not trained off leash so she was being held. Carlie on the right only has one paw down. They were so happy to be on a beach.

I was so inspired that the word we used to recall them in Mexico worked here. They turned immediately once I called out that word.

Back home for birthday appetizers. On the right are mini rolls of lox holding a mix of creme cheese with some magical ingredients. This appetizer is something that I only make on the most special of occasions. I last made it on Colin’s 70th and before that on his 65th. My very dear friend Margot shared this recipe with me years ago. Sadly she is no longer with us but she is always with me in so many other ways and most especially when I make these roll ups. Off course they are never as good as when Margot made them.

Saturday the 21st was Joshs 44th birthday and we were getting ready to make margaritas. We later enjoyed a fish taco bar for dinner.

Sequoia play attacking Ciela.

They played well together and of course all three ran around and around the yard. Carlie was diagnosed with an ear infection Friday so she was not as active.

Sequoia at the top than Ciela and Carlie caught mid yawn.

We even had a sunset. Haven’t had too many of those because of the weather.

There was even some dancing.

No birthday is complete without a cake.

Your girls were so good at the off leash beach; I’m so impressed! They heard your “call” and turned right around. 🙂
The lox were so yummy! Thanks so much 🙂
It was a wonderful day thanks again for the gracious & generous hosting you provided us with! 🙂
And the yummy margarita’s too!! It’s not a Mexico theme without them 😉

    Abrazos!

Thanks again Google, I learnt a new Spanish word 🙂

If anyone is interested the Cidery and Sandhill (not dog friendly) were wonderful! Just down the street from each other.

What a beautiful array of appetizers. Just doing that would have worn me to a nub!! Are you ever going to tell what you put in the cream cheese for the lox rolls? I am a huge fan of lox and cream cheese.

I doubt it. She wouldn’t tell me. 😉
      Once again, they were yummy!!
I did ask her if she would share the recipe and she said she had to have some secrets. 🙂
