Update

I finally was able to speak with my doctor this morning and she said that I had no rib fractures. She was off all day Friday and did see the X-ray results that day from home but did not bother to tell me. I had a very bad night and this morning was in a world of pain. The pain was so bad that I could barely talk. She told me to just rest and to keep taking ibuprofen and the codeine for pain. She did not at all seem concerned re the degree of pain that I was having. As most of you know I am a retired RN and don’t make this stuff up. All I can surmise is that my breasts were greatly impacted from the fall and are adding to my constant aching. I started doing cold compresses today. I only get up and move when I need to use the bathroom. So tired of being in discomfort and relegated to my recliner. All I can do is keep taking it day by day. Once the agony decreases I plan to see a chiropractor to make sure that my ribs are in the right place. I have to be able to get up on the table on my own which I can’t do at the moment.

Contessa, wish U a quick recovery. Been thinking that perhaps the unbearable pain is due to trauma to the Xiphoid process, that little hanging bone is extremely painful when is damaged . Maybe a CATscan can show the damage in a clearer fashion.
Prayers for a faster recuperation from this side of the planet ??

  2. I was surprised many years ago to find out that we can actually bruise a bone. If you bruised your ribs it will hurt worse then a fracture and take up to Two Years to stop hurting.
Be Safe and Enjoy your recuperation.

    It’s about time.

In Feb I fell and broke 8,9 & 10 ribs. After almost 6 months they still hurt at times. My thoracic surgeon ordered a ct scan which, as a nurse, you will know is much better than an xray. Rather than a chiropractor I would suggest getting a ct scan. Yes broken ribs are exceedingly painful. ‘May I suggest another bottle of wine’?

Thank you doctor, I really like that wine solution. I will give it another few days before I consider something else. Actually unless your MD sends you to the hospital for and pray with the reason why, you have to wait about 4 weeks for a regular xray. I’m sure that a CT scan would be even longer.
