Who knew that a new house was so much work?

Day 1 which was delivery day was exciting but once the house was in place the stress evaporated.  But not for long!   So very many little issues to deal with, from strangers walking onto the lot and possibly getting hurt, to two different work crews not necessarily happy that the other is there, to the dogs repeatedly running away.  I have no time for anything else but the house!!

Day 2...the lumber arrives for the deck side of the house. Meanwhile the house crew are starting to frame in the basement.

We hired a separate crew to build the deck. However the house crew thinks we should have hired them to build the deck also. However we feel we need 2 crews to get the project moving forward. Besides it is our house and our cheque book!

The day the house arrived was hot but it seemed even hotter the past two days as we had thunderstorms brewing on the horizon.  The fellows would stop mid afternoon and come back in the cool of the evening to work for a few hours.  Meanwhile we only had about 5 minutes of rain and several loud thunder claps.

However that was enough to send Carmeh hiding at the bottom of the RV stairwell for a few hours.

...while Caeli chose to hide between the sofa and behind the recliner.

In the all excitement I forgot to mention that Carmeh turned 9 the day the house arrived.  Not everyone buys their fur kid a new home for their birthday:)  Thanks for remembering Gramma Katie!

The end of Day 3.....that is one long deck. You can see under the house the framing that is happening. We are going a few steps further to protect our floors from the cold & wind off the lake by placing plywood, then a Tyvec membrane and then the final vinyl skirting. Under the big window we are putting in a door so we can store our kayaks under the house. There will also be storage at the front end and each end of the deck. As you can see the siding is off the side of the house, it has to be on legally for transport. Once the add a room is built the wall from the patio towards this end of the photo will come down making a great room. Well at least that is the plan:)

Thursday evening inspection! Don't you just love the bedroom door? It represents the 5C's!! Once we saw the C's in the door we knew we had to get it. The outside front door will be similar.

Yesterday Colin built an enclosure for the girls. Normally they would just stay in the yard but for some reason they keep escaping so now they are fenced in. We have a young family of quail living in our shrubs.

Construction has come to a grinding halt!!!  No electricity!  Colin has run over to check it out.

Meanwhile I am happy to report that today I reached a new level in my online business.  Including my initial input of $3076.00 I am now at $10,191.84!  Woohoo!!!!  I am so proud of myself!  I foresee many margaritas on the beach in Mexico this winter.

Colin is back….power has been restored, too many power tools using the same plug.  Duh!!!

Great idea for kayak storage underneath – taking advantage of using up the space underneath makes sense. One can never have enough storage for especially things used outside if you don’t have a garage or a big building. Nice deck and addition – looks like you’ll have plenty of room. It’s so fun getting a new house and making it your home – have fun and enjoy each moment!

Looks great, can’t wait to see the final version. Give the girls a hug; they are being traumatized by the changes.

Coming along!! We’ve been getting those mostly dry thunderstorms, too. Except tonight when all my kids wanted to go to the stock car races and they were rained out! We’re lucky Chloe and Merlin aren’t bothered by the thunder.

  6. Finally all coming together and looking good!
