Travel Medical Insurance
Today I am getting all of our insurance in order. This includes home, RV and travel medical. I have just had a huge shock!! Colin turned 60 in July and we thought..here comes the good life, senior discounts almost everywhere. Not so with travel medical insurance. Up till now we paid a $68.00 (34.00 each) base which is good for 30 day trips all year. In addition we topped up to the number of days we were away, last winter it was $403.00 for a total of $471.50. Today I was told that the base fee for myself is $79.00 and for Colin is $150.00 (because he is old) and the top up is $707.40 for a total of $936.40. That is seriously going to affect my wine fund.
So please help us out….Who do you use? Does this increase seem unreasonable?
This was for a $2,000,00.00 medical benefit plan with a $250.00 deductible.
Any and all advice requested…..asap!

Sorry can’t help you there.
We we are now at $1000.00 a year for the same but no deductible. There was a large jump last year when I got old too (60). So far this is the best rates that we have come up with.
I’ll let you know if I find something better.
Yes getting old suck,s but we still get to enjoy alot, also Rog has high blood pressure, cholestrol and had a stint 6 yrs. agoso his medical is really high, but we do get to use it for income tax!!!Yaaah!! Bug tips are great, can they be bought at Health store,s too!??? Adios Susie
Not sure if you can get the bug stuff elsewhere. I suggest you Goggle that product you are interested in and then contact the company to see if it is sold elsewhere.
I read your blog entry today about insurance. The rate you got is probably in the ballpark. We use Sanderson Travel insurance out of Ontario, they canvass the insurance companies to get the best rate. We changed to them after using another insurer, we got better rates with Sanderson. One of us is insured through TIC (which I think may be in BC) and the other is with Manulife.
Our cost is just under $1,000 for November 1 to April 15 out of country, we are 60 and 62, and one of us has hypertension which bumps the rate a bit. We get the best policies to ensure that we are covered, even the RV and dog gets repatriated in case of a problem!

They are good in that they keep your records and they respond to concerns. Last winter Suzette had to go back to Canada to see her father who was in ill health, we had a “one trip” policy, Sanderson arranged with the insurer to cover the trip at no additional cost. Our cost is just under $1,000 for November 1 to April 15 out of country, we are 60 and 62, and one of us has hypertension which bumps the rate a bit. I will check into this on Monday.
