Colin went a fishing…..
This is big, actually huge news. He has always wanted to do it but the opportunity just wasn’t there. About a week ago Colin got a call from Bruce ( as in Palm Springs and BMW Z3 Bruce) asking if he would like to go fishing to Ucluelet? This is a great year for salmon and they were likely to catch something. So with little notice and minimal preparation they left here Sunday ( Sept. 12) and drove to Ucluelet, had dinner and went to bed. Bruce said they had to be at the boat at 6:00AM.
So off into the foggy ocean they went. Fortunately it was calm and not raining….Colin still took his Gravol. They trolled….letting the rods drift along until they saw movement upon which they pulled in the fish. Colin found this part boring….he would have liked to sit and hold the rod and feel the strike. They had a midmorning visit while about 11 miles out, about an hour out. This tiny bird landed on a rod and just breathed and breathed. It obviously was out of it’s element and seemed to be in a bit of trouble.
It actually is a Prairie Warbler and way out of it’s normal area. The boat captain tried to catch it but it got away then still having trouble it landed again on the rod. This time the bird was captured and put into a small box.
The good news is that the bird was returned to shore and let free.
The great news is that between them ,the guys caught 7 Spring salmon, 1 Coho salmon and 2 Halibut. The largest fish was almost 48lbs and the smallest was 14lbs. Quite the catch within a three hour time limit.
They were back at the dock by 1:30PM, drove to the ferry and napped and Colin was home just after midnight Monday night. An extremely eventful almost 48 hours. The next few days were a haze, 17 hour day on Tuesday including a presentation to Kelowna builders, Wed. was another 16 hour day, Thursday was only 12 hours and today Friday, 14 hours. I do think that is why the fishing opportunity does not come up too often as he is usually working. Needless to say he is a bit weary but a happy fisherman. We hope to have a late salmon dinner tonight about 10:00PM.

Well, yes we caught great fish, very yummy. Today I am almost normal. The drive one way and back, 5 hours to the ferry, 2 hour ferry ride and 3 hours to the Ucluelet harbour and then diner Chinese spagetti with ketchup so I wouldn’t have greasy food in my tummy in the am and then a blueberry muffin at 6 am with Gravol and no food until 1:30 pm and also the race car driving there and back by Bruce who can not be in a slow car so he drives, (better he drives or my driving is lectured) radar detector needed to keep evading coppers and me holding on and gritting my teeth as Bruce handled my car effortlessly going around curves faster than the car is capable but with ease for the car and driver but me needing more gravol for the road trip… When returning back, stopping at Bruce’s home and me finally behind the wheel driving home and checking my blood pressure on my final drive less than the speed limit, cooling down – a mere 192 blood pressure with ringing in my ears and a headache. Roller coasters, death defying vertical drops, loops in aircraft and stalls causing twirling dives, climbing construction cranes 500 ft high, – I can do but Bruce’s driving speed mucho, safety no problem but my brain and my body were unable to communicate. I am still alive, my body settling back into it’s routine Time for more wine and a little guitar.
