Deb and John are certainly enjoying their time on the Isla. Amazingly they have already been joined by another RVer for a month or so, plus they are expecting another couple from Manitoba later this week, who they met while in San Carlos. RVing in Mexico is on the increase.
As a matter of fact, it seems that we shall be having 7 new Rvers joining us at Tres Amigos this winter. Some for a few months, others for a week or so, just checking out the area. Only two have previously RVed in Mexico. What makes this so special is that they have all been following my blog and I like to think that most are coming because of what I have written. Well that is what some of them tell me. That is exactly what I wanted to accomplish with my posts, bringing more RVers to Mexico. I only wish I had been blogging while we were travelling all over Mexico. Oh the stories I could have told and the photos we could have shown. We will one day, when the time is right, start to roam all over Mexico once again.
Before I forget, Deb has found a wonderful link for Mazatlan. Not only does is show what is happening at El Recreo but on the right hand side there are links to all of the important websites in Mazatlan. A real bonus, all in one place. Check it out here.
I also asked Deb for an update re the Nogales border crossing, etc. I will update this throughout the next few months as news comes to me. But meanwhile here is the first update. Thanks, Deb.
Re. Nogales crossing suggestions.
When at the US side of the border in Nogales, stay right in the single lane for trucks . The left lane for regular cars still has those concrete barriers skewed to make you drive slow. It’s too hard for an RV to maneuver that. There was no one at this entry point at all to greet, inspect or question us …7am.
After several KM you get to the Mexican Inspection station (white and blue coloured)…. This is the crossing with all the big and angled Topes. There are 3 or 4 lanes here. Again, stay to the far right lane (there is a small sign that says RVs) it’s hard to see ….but if you mistakenly go left, there is an awning that is TOO LOW ….be careful. This is the area where you wait for your RED or GREEN light.
At KM 21, we only passed through here briefly…lane 5 is for RVs . We were stopped and inspected briefly.
The roads as far as Hermosillo are great …almost all construction is finished. After that, be prepared for the same old roller coaster ride, with no shoulders as far as the Sinaloa border. There were no fruit checks or inspection stops at all.
It is also time to start thinking about ordering your Mexico vehicle insurance. We always get ours from
San Xavier Mexico Insurance. We have only had one claim while we were south of Puerto Escondido and they settled it with no issues. We simply call them on their toll free number, give them the details and they mail us out the policy right away. One less thing to have to deal with at the US/Mexico border.
I think I hear Mexico calling to me.

Yep is time to getting rolling pretty soon.
George….I can hardly wait. Our weather here is great but it is time to hit the road.
Shelagh…..glad is worked!
Lynda…..things in Hermosillo have changed a bit with the new construction but easy to follow with the signage. Glad to hear you will be travelling Mexico. Maybe we can finally meet.
Linda….yes I heard that also about the rain. Deb and John seem to be doing alright. I will keep posting just for you 😉
The apple cider trap works so amazingly well. Did it yesterday and now have about 25 of the little beasts. Thanks so much for the tip. I will put this idea on facebook.
Cheers
Our most recent trip to San Carlos, MX was in February 2013. I totally concur with your description of the proper border crossing for RVs through Nogales and the KM 21 for car permits, though they are not needed if just traveling in Sonora. We have always purchased our Mexican insurance through Lewis and Lewis in Los Angeles, though are always interested in new suggestions. The by-pass around Hermosillo is well described in Church’s Guide to Mexico travel. We too, have RV’d all over Mexico over our many years of fulltiming, and will continue to do so, though there are a lot of warnings against this.
Sounds like you’re going to have a great time on the Isla this year….I’m jealous! We won’t be down till May and then only for 2 weeks…I’ll continue to live vicariously through your blog!
I hear Maz had over 9 inches of rain in a 2 day period…
Glad you’re feeling better too…..hope you win the award – the house looks great!
That’s great news for your park Contessa. Hopefully if we all keep blogging about Mexico, more people will come and they will see why we love Mexico so much.
I certainly hope so Kevin.
