A trip to the vet via the fish market

The girls needed their anal glands expressed.  Yes it is uckey but it needs to be done.  At home it is $45.00CAD per dog and here it is 50 pesos each, less than $5.00 and the pulmonia ride is only 40 pesos each way.  Win/ win for us.  The girls don’t like it at all.

Arriving on the Mazatlan side of the embarcadero. A seven peso ride from the Isla, about 50 cents.

We bought half of this dorado for a mere 70 pesos and our neighbors purchased the other half. A real steal of a deal for over 1 kilo of fresh caught dorado aka mahi-mahi.

The girls were with us and we just had to press on.

Wow...new wall art along the way. Someone has been very creative.

Carmeh was good about it all and Caeli only squealed the once.

Many of the RVers use Dr. Rafael at La Jungla. He is a great vat and speaks English.

The pulmonia ride back to the embarcadero was fast.

We boarded the panga for the ride back to the Isla but sat for a bit waiting for it to fill up. Meanwhile another group of folks arrived from the Isla.

This fellow was pulling up a net just a few yards away.

A A pelican waiting for a handout.

The fish market is located right next to the embarcadero so there are always many pelicans hanging around.

We pass a Mexican Navy vessel pulling out of port.

That is the Isla in the distance.

Hanging around buoy #14.

Back to the car at the embarcadero where some school children were playing during a break from classes.

A quick stop to pick up our laundry where I noticed this house across the road.

All of the this in and hour and a half.  Back to our site on the ocean where re relaxed for the rest of the day.

The dorado before cooking.

After being cooked in garlic and wine.....yum!

Just another day in Mazatlan.

Too bad you didn’t holler and come by for a coffee! But I understand when you have the dogs you want to make a quick trip of it.

FYI I think you just made a calculation mistake but 7 pesos is 57 cents CAD and 53 cents USD.

    See ya

I love the girls carry bags. Now the expression on their faces while on Colin’s lap is priceless.

Longdog……the girls were happy to leave the vets office 🙂

Sandi….we bought those carry bag at Total Pet in Kelowna, across the road from London Drugs. I’m sure Chuck in your RV park shared some of his fish with you all.

Chris……depending on when you cross the channel there is always something different and interesting to see.

      Peter..gracias!

Cheryl…..nice to hear from you but oh my poor Cali…..yeas we are having a fabulous time. Too bad you didn’t come.

Yes, I agree the carry bags are just great! Were you able to buy them at a store or did you have them made? Now, I’m craving fish for supper, ha ha!

Cool pic of Colin carrying the girls! I remember my trip on the lancha to see you guys. It was in the dark and it was a blast. I could do that all day!

It’s a hard life C&C, but somebody has to live it! Great post!

My Cali once had an anal gland rupture and it was not pretty. Luckily, she healed completely and now I just have the groomer “do the deed” when I have her groomed.

Beautiful pictures of Mazatlan. It looks like you’re having a great time.

How do you u get the rv over to the isla?? did I miss that??? or is there a bridge??

    • contessa says:

Hola Dolores……it is called an island but it is actually a peninsula and so you can drive on a road close to the Mazatlan airport. Here is the link about our arrival and the road http://www.contessajewall.com/oldblog/2013/11/08/we-are-home-for-the-next-five-months/. The road is supposed to be paved next year which will make things much easier. You can drive the road anytime you like but we prefer not to. It is about 10 miles to the main road and then back 10 miles into Mazatlan. Easier to take the panga. IF you have a 4WD many will drive the beach back towards the airport, mostly for fun.

  8. Another great deal on the fish, that you so much enjoy. Great memories of that area.
