Uninvited Intruder
Let me set the scene. We were sitting next door at Val and John’s. The girls really wanted to come over and Carmeh tried so hard. First she tried to climb the fence and then she tried to bite through the plastic. She looked so cute, she was just a few feet away but oh so determined to join us. I wished I had my camera to take a photo. Five minutes later she manouevered around the gate and half jumped onto our stairs down to the sand and up John’s stairs. She was so proud of herself. Of course I got up to let Caeli out of our yard and join us.
A few minutes later the large group of 30 horses came galloping down to the beach from the road beside our site. We have only ever seen this group come up off the beach and at a nice slow pace. Again I wished I had my camera.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement. I shouted for John to get his camera. We had an uninvited intruder.
Suddenly the horse rushed out the yard breaking through our fence, now held together with duct tape. There was no damage other then munched plants and lots of deep hoof prints and of course the broken metal fence. I have no idea how he got into the yard, maybe he stepped over the gate. Obviously as the horses galloped down the road this one came through the RV entrance and right into our site.
It did take a while for my heart to stop pumping so fast. Now where was our friend Hugh, the horseman, when we needed him? Moral of the story, keep your camera with you at all times.

Wow……now where’s a cowboy when you need one….
I’m glad you were there to get some pictures.
Kelly….well we did get some photos but certainly not in the Bayfield Bunch tradition.
Too funny, good thing you weren’t given a big steamy dump! Never a dull moment on the isla.
Quit horsing around and pony-up for a new fence. Sounds like you were hoofing a good time.
Good thing the dogs didn’t get around the horse and get hurt.
Gosh, how do you follow that for excitement!? Glad the dogs didn’t get in his way…
Never a dull moment and I always have my camera with me, in my vest ya know.
I think that’s the best looking extra animal you’ve had in years.
Very simple– he was just looking for his buddy Hugh to give him some carrots! Hugh told him to stop by the RV Park whenever he might be hungry! Seeing as how you guys did not oblige with the carrots, he tried your garden greens instead. When those turned out not to be nearly as tasty as the carrots, he headed back out to continue his search for Hugh!
I’ve tried and tried to tell these guys to stay out of peoples’ RV camps, but who listens? Next time it happens, don’t freak. What you do is this….. grab about 4 ft or longer rope, extension cord, or anything similar, and GENTLY drape it around the horse’s neck. It will then know it’s caught. You then should be able to lead it wherever you want. Just watch your feet so you don’t get stepped on. And don’t sweat about any droppings- it makes great fertilizer. Nature designed it that way. So all you silly city slickers, get over it – it’s just recycled grass.
Yell, shoe horse, or is that horse shoe! Hahaha!
