Dear Chris,

A reader of my blog, someone I don’t know, do not have any idea where they live, nor even if they are male or female, wrote me a comment the other day.

“I love your blog! We will be flying to Mazatlan on the 12th and I can’t wait. The pictures and stories are wonderful!”

Dear Chris,

We hope your trip to Mazatlan will be everything you hope it to be.  I’m sure you have already done a good deal of research as to what you want to see.  Don’t forget to check out the Plazuela Machado, especially at night where the square comes alive with thousands of tiny white lights.  Be sure to stop at one of the restaurants there for at least a cerveza or a margarita.  This is near the Centro Historico, Old Town where there is so much to see.

From here if you walk west towards the water you will come to Olas Altas which was Mazatlan’s original tourist district.  In fact there is a free concert next Wednesday, the 15th, a celebration of Mexican music by the Sinfonia Mexicana, at 7:30PM.  I’m sure you know all about the Golden Zone which hosts a multitude of restaurants & shopping experiences.  The Mercado at Centro (Central Market)….

is a must as well as the Cathedral and the Plaza Revolution.  So much to see & do.  What else, oh yes take a stroll along the Malecon or better yet take a ride in a pulmonia!

If you have any extra time Chris take a water taxi…

over to the Isla de la Piedra and enjoy the beach.  Stop for lunch, buy something from one of the beach vendors and just simply enjoy!  You are always welcome to drop by and say hello to us at the Tres Amigos RV Park.  Just ask for Contessa.

Buen Viaje,

the 5C’s

  1. Great description of the Mazatlan sights!

Thank you. We are somewhat frequent visitors to Mazatlan and someday hope to retire there. We have been visiting 2-3 times a year since 2000. I am a frequent reader of any Mazatlan blog I can find, especially as we get closer to returning to Mazatlan.
Believe it or not, we have never made it to Stone Island. We love Playa Sur, Oltas Atlas and La Plazuela Machado. Each year we spend more and more time in old town even though we stay at the north end of the golden zone. If we make it to Stone Island, we shall say, “hi.” Thanks for the heads up about the concert on the 15th. I believe we will head out of town to La Guaycima (sp?) to visit some friends that night. Another free concert that is coming up is a Beattle’s type of concert on the 18th at La Plazuela Machado. (mentioned on Whatsupmaz.org.)
    Love the dog pictures!
