Yesterday, both Colin and I took the day off and just bombed around town. We were celebrating my birthday.
This was from an E card I received and so I did decide to milk it for what I could get.
We had breakfast out and drove around a bit and then on a whim we wondered into Orchard Park Mall. I haven’t been there for years and it was nice to check things out. Somehow we ended up in a store and found the perfect wines glasses. No photos yet but trust me they are perfect for our home. It was just special spending time together doing whatever and not worrying about the time or the lists. The weather was nice and we had the top down on the Z3.
From another E card, a birthday is the perfect time to change things up a bit. Now that I am walking again, so much more is available to me and I have much to look forward to.
I got this card in the mail from a friend I have know for 51 years. Love this card.
So with the newly purchased wine glasses, where do you think we went next?
The liquor store of course. Here in B.C. it is a government operation so there isn't any competition in pricing between stores, like in Alberta or the USA. We now have a few private stores but their prices tend to be the same or higher and they have little selection.
Once again we took our time and wondered around. Liked the label but not the price.
Then I saw this. Who pays $1800.00 for a 2010 bottle of wine?
We have been having trouble finding wild salmon this spring so on a whim we stopped at Costco to see if any had come in.
Not only was there fresh wild salmon but it was Copper River Sockeye! Yes you are reading the label correctly, $45.00 per kg or 2.2 pounds. We got the smallest package we could find. Yes is is that good and well worth the price. Likely it will all be gone within a few days even at that price. It only comes in once a year.
This was my card from Colin, dubbed the current 5th C. Very cute card and photo but that poor dog looks somewhat disconcerted. I think it needs a loving hug. Good thing it was only a card 🙂
We decided to have dinner at home, more relaxing and of course, then we could be with the girls. Tried a new bottle of wine in one of the new glasses, did some relaxing and I took the day off from walking. So I got to read and sip while the rest walked. Loved it.
We both made dinner together, me inside and Colin out at the BBQ. This will be the first time we have used the Weber on Copper River Salmon and it did not disappoint.
I couldn't have had a better meal to celebrate my day with. A huge Caesar salad, a wild rice mixture, sauteed onions & mushrooms, steamed broccoli and to die for, melt in your mouth, salmon.
Good thing the only cake I had was in the form of another E Card.
Happy Birthday! I’m glad you had such a wonderful day – loved all the photos! 🙂
Thanks Cheryl, it was great living in the moment and I so appreciate my memories of yesterday cuz today it’s drizzling.
mmmmmmmmmm that salmon looks delish……………..sounds like you had a great day
Thanks Nancy & Randy, it was fun and you two would have loved that salmon.
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Contessa! Sounds like a perfect day. Loved all the photos, too!!
(((HUGSSSSSS)))
Connie, I love your hugs, thanks so much.
Nancy, gracias!
Jean….it was a perfect birthday.
Annie…can you imagine the damage we could do in that store if we had all the money in the world 🙂
Peter…thanks for dropping by. It was a very good dinner.
Rod…well I don’t think we will ever find out but perhaps we can try your wine sometime.
Kevin…thanks for the save. Honestly I would rather buy a variety of cheaper wines to enjoy. A sip of the $1800.00 vino will soon be forgotten.
Dolores, you made me laugh but what you say is so true. The backsplash was a photo I had found and put on the tiles. I didn’t like the normal backsplashes.
George….thanks, well at least 6 months of the year is fun and with the odd day here and there, I think I am doing better.
Susan, too funny…if I could only have had one piece maybe but then the rest of the cake would be there looking at me and saying “eat me, eat me”!
Susie, I’ll show you my glasses if you share your wine. I know you would if we were close. Sure going to miss you on the Isla this winter.
Jannose….I don’t remember you telling me you were going to Europe. You two barely stay home anymore :))
Marty…you didn’t miss it, thanks for dropping by. It was a great day and will always be a special memory.
Sounds like a great birthday, feliz cumpleaños!
What a perfect birthday for you, your dinner looks really good!
Happy Birthday, Contessa! A perfect day, and your meal looks fabulous! I could spend some quality time in that store. 🙂
Best birthday wishes from both of us! Dinner looks amazing!
Happy Birthday! I’ll bet the $1800 bottle isn’t 200 times better than the Smoking Loon Cabernet we but in Arizona.
Happy Birthday Contessa, sounds like you had a fun day, just as you should. We don’t understand who would buy a bottle of wine for $1800 either, even if it was way older than a 2010.
You birthday dinner looks delicious! BTW, there are 2.2lb to 1kg, not 1.1 which I am sure was just a typo on your part.
Happy day to you!!!! It looked like you had a really good one, geez that bottle of wine is more than some people’s mortgage!! Love the blacksplash above the stove!!!
Happy Birthday, sure is nice to have a fun day, you need more of those.
Happy Birthday Contessa!! Glad that you had such a wonderful day. Nothing beats being with your favourite person, a good meal and no exercise. But you should have had the cake!!! lol
Happy Birthday, 23rd was my parents Anniversary.. Interesting wine prices. I found a new white from a winery in Port Alberni, ordered a case.. Looking forward to seeing you new wine glasses.. Cheers!! “S”
Happy belated birthday. Looks like you had a wonderful day. Been back from Europe for a week now and finally got over jet lag and got all our yard work up to date. Take care.
Thank Kevin…2.2 it is!
Thank you everyone for your comments. It means a lot to me that you are out there, I consider you all my online family. You all helped make my birthday special.
Happy birthday, sorry I missed it-glad you had a good day.
Happy Birthday to you (yesterday).
Wises to Colin and the doggies. It,s all OK in home?
Gracias Heriberto!
Contessa!! I am behind in my blog reading, and I missed your birthday! SOOOO Sorry! Oh, well, I always like to make mine last, so hopefully you will too. Sure looks like you had a great day, with some of my favorite things….reading, shopping for vino, fresh salmon, and a caesar salad. What a great day you had! I enjoyed celebrating with you “virtually,” albeit a bit late.
Nice to hear from you Suzanne. Glad you enjoyed my day 🙂
I’m sorry I’m so far behind and missed your birthday. Looks like it was a happy one.
It was a great one Colleen, thats for dropping by.
