A walk in the park with a tad of danger

Yesterday ( Wednesday ) morning due to high tide we did our first walk of the day in the botanical gardens just behind the RV Park.  The park has been under development for a few years now and this was our first walk this season.  A lot has been accomplished since we were last here the end of March.

This is the entrance to the garden but actually this is the view when you exit. That is the RV park you see in the background. It is just across the dirt road.

I have no idea what this flower is. It is actually an entire tree covered with these orchid like blooms.

Yes those are small homes being built in the distance.

Chris and Juan reported that these are to be rented out short term.  Our understanding is that eventually lots will be sold and homes will be built.  The idea is that all of this it not supposed to impact the Isla as it is.  One step at a time I guess.  I do believe that once the road is paved that things will change quite a bit.  A paved road will make the Isla so much more accessible, not to just RVers but to everyone.  Amaitlan as the project is known has huge plans.  If you click here and just look at the projected renderings you will soon get a concept of what is to come.  Will this come to pass in our lifetime, I certainly hope not.

920 hectares to be protected and kept green. We shall see.

I don't see an RV park in this rendering. Best come down here and enjoy it before it changes.

It looks like 90% of the paths have been completed. Still some plants waiting to be planted but it looks so wonderful.

So much wonderful flora and the butterflies are magnificent. I saw a deep turquoise blue butterfly but it refused to pose for me. Next time!

We are so lucky to have this garden right across from us.

Have you ever seen a tree with such armor? It did have some nice flowers very high up, perhaps a protection for those.

The first time I have ever seen peach bougainvillea.

Central Park in New York City consists of 300 hectares and the botanical garden here on the Isla is 850 hectares.

Many paths to wander in this park, so easy to meander here and there.

This photo does not due it justice but the bark on this tree is so very interesting with many layers and much depth.

We had a great visit and walk but sadly I came home with about 12 mosquito bites and Colin about three.  So be sure to spray yourself before entering the garden of Eden  🙁  We did still have our daily beach walk but later in the day.  The temperatures have picked up and it is warmish.  77F at 6:00PM is a pleasant temperature.

Only one cruise ship in yesterday!

Dad is doing as well as can be expected.  He is finally on the list for a nursing home, his last forever home.  Gas prices in Edmonton are low, very low, 69.6 per litre.  Amazing!

Thanks for the tour of the garden – I so enjoyed it. Derek and I love to garden and are lovers of plants. Hmmm – and they call it progress. Too bad the project has to be so big! Another nice sunset – you guys get very good ones up there. Sending you some warmth from down here – we don’t need so much of it!

At least you’re there to enjoy it before it becomes too built up. Nice pics.

Hopefully it will take a long time for the project to come to be completed. The pics of the gardens are beautiful. Nice place for a walk. I enjoyed going there in the morning. Sunset sure looks nice!

  4. So glad we got to enjoy the Isla in its primitive state, the progress is kind of sad. Enjoy it while you can.
