…the rest of the story
As discussed in yesterdays post the canoe was benched early on last summer. Colin had even ordered a trolling motor which ended up being 50% cheaper by ordering it on Amazon.ca. Sorry Kevin & Ruth but you were not doing the Canadian Amazon order thing back then.
So last week or so Colin pulled out the canoe. He wanted to try it out.
I had no idea he was doing all of this. I was otherwise occupied at my desk or somewhere in our huge house 🙄 Fortunately I got up to check what was going on outside or I would have missed all the action.
It seems that the engine was mounted too far behind Colin. It was awkward to use. First Colin repositioned the motor mount a tad and then he had to shim the bracket that bolted to the gunnels. None of these adjustments have been checked in the water. However Colin is confidant that we are ready for our maiden voyage. Not quite sure when that will be as the weather has gotten somewhat cool and very windy. Of course the first few perfect days weather wise will have to be dedicated to work but hopefully there will be a few spare hours to give the canoe a test. I’ll let you know when that happens.
By the way the way Colin loved being out in the canoe even for a short time. He said it was fabulous 😛 I can hardly wait for my turn.

It is nice to be out on the water and soon your turn will come.
We are looking forward to it.
ah, that looks like heaven! I used to love paddling my solo canoe…until about the 4th or 5th mile when I desperately wished for a small trolling motor to get me home. Looks like Colin has figured out quite a nice setup there. Hope you’ll all enjoy many hours of serenity on the water this summer!
That’s why we have trolling motor. We have the option of just paddling or a combination or what the heck maybe a quick sunset cruise by motor. I can hardly wait.
Thanks for thinking of us Contessa! Hopefully any further purchases you make through Amazon can be done through us now. 🙂
The canoe looks great and it seems that the girls love it! Hope the winds die down soon so you can get out in it and enjoy the lake. I sure wish we had a canoe here at the campground. We keep trying to get the board to buy some so that we can rent them out but I doubt that will happen this year.
Ruth
I think canoes would be a great rental idea at your campground and likely would pay for itself very quickly. Check out Kijiji or Craig’s list and you might find a great deal. The girls love being out on the kayaks so this will be a natural transition.
That’s a beautiful canoe!
We were lucky to find it.
Neat! I love how the girls are comfortable in the water.
They have no inclination to get into the water. They just like to enjoy the passing scenery.
I meant ON the water. 🙂
Got it 🙂
Kinda like the Girls – like being on the water and the passing scenery but not so much in the water. Do love walking on the beach with the toes in water every once in awhile. Sure is a beautiful location you have there.
You have the girls down pat, just toe dipping in a warm ocean. Thanks, we do appreciate what we have here and say it to each other everyday.
OK-now’s the time to get life jackets for the girls.
If we put them in a life jacket they will squirm around more and rock the boat, trust me I know. e do have them on a leash twisted around our legs and if they fell over we would simply reel them in.
