The snake VS the girls
Life and work has kept me overly busy these past few days. Sorry for the absence.
So I think it was Monday morning and the girls were outside ( they have use of a doggy door ) when I heard the bark. Depending on how that bark sounds I know what is happening.
I was still in my nightie and we hadn’t even had coffee yet. So out the door and down the steps we both go. I grabbed my camera on the way out.
It lives in the rocks between our site and the beach. Colin and I, at different times, have seen it swim in the lake. Once we found the skin it had shed. Another year Caeli managed to pick it up out of the rocks with her teeth and gave it quite the shaking. Did you know that snakes bleed red blood? This day they both wanted to capture that serpent. They were both barking at the top of their lungs as if that would make the snake come closer. Next thing I knew, Colin was down on his knees lifting and moving rocks to find that slithering piece of ‘yuck’ in my opinion. He was as excited as one of the girls, encouraging them to keep hunting. As long as it stays hidden in the rocks and I don’t see it, that is good.
A cute parting shot sent to me by one of my readers. How many is too many 😯

Always some excitement, just to keep you on your toes.
Excitement in our lives, always that’s for certain.
I’m not a fan of snakes at all. My late mother was bitten by a copperhead as a child, and instilled the “snake fear” in all of her seven children…
I have no specific reason to dislike them, just don’t like them, not even in a reptile exhibit at a zoo.
The rocks wouldn’t stop Scooter from going after a snake, rabbit, lizard, bird or anything else. So I’m hoping we never ever see a snake. I really really don’t like them and even if I couldn’t see it in the rocks I’d know it was there and I’d worry all the time. You made me laugh describing Colin egging the girls on. And it definitely is a challenge not to overfeed. But boy do we love peanut butter.
We’ve taught our girls to stay off the rocks, just for safety sake but that won’t stop them from reaching down and grabbing the snack. On the flat they will chase anything that moves. The other day an ant was carrying a large twig which was about one inch high. She chased the moving stick 🙂
We have seen more snakes this year than any other here on Vancouver Island, not sure why. They are mostly baby snakes though, and always garter. I don’t think we have any scary ones here. Those puppies are so cute – kind of hard on Mom though.
Not sure what kind of snake this is and I don’t want to look at snake photos online 🙁
BTW, we enjoyed the organic peanut butter you guys sent home with us 🙂 Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed it as much as the girls did.
