“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”

As they gather around the veggie truck, everyone is wearing their winter woolies, except Steve that is.  He just got here 2 days ago so his blood is still full of Canadian cold!!  Just wait till he acclimatizes like the rest of us and starts to shiver.  We don’t know if this is a new low for Mazatlan but we feel like it is! It was a cool 44F this morning and only heated up to 65F. Actually it may have been cooler because……….

..the wind is really really blowing!

This tent and a few others were blown down.  No damaged awnings that we are aware of.  The wind has added a windchill factor to the weather.  Locals are walking around with blankets around them.  They are intensely feeling this winter storm.  We know that you are all very cold further North but these poor people have no heat in their homes, nor furnaces.  In fact most of them have no windows or doors!

There was one lone vendor on the beach this morning. I don't who he was going to find to sell anything to.

The wind is kicking up the sand making for an uncomfortable beach walk and dry dirt that covers the roads is flying everywhere, at times to the point of not seeing more that a few feet.  Definitely a day to stay inside and add brandy to your coffee or perhaps start happy hour a tad earlier.

Tonight the forecast calls for a low of 37F and winds from 25 – 33MPH!!!

Caeli has claimed her hot spot!

...and Carmeh has snuggled in.

All that’s left is to go pour something to keep the adults warm……

YOU’RE RIGHT. IT’S VERY CHILLY HERE IN LAKE HAVASU CITY AS WELL. YESTERDAY, WEDNESDAY. WITH THE WIND-CHILL, WE WERE 19F!!!! I DON’T THINK IN THE 31 WINTERS I’VE BEEN COMING HERE I HAVE EVER SEEN IT THIS COLD. ALL THE HOMELESS PEOPLE HAVE NO SHELTERS EXCEPT MAYBE UNDER THE LONDON BRIDGE. THERE ARE NO HOMELESS SHELTERS AND MANY PEOPLE “MIGRATE” HERE FOR THE WINTERS AS IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE WARM. OUR WINDS HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE FOR DAYS. WE THOUGHT OUR ROOF WAS GOING TO BLOW OFF TWO NIGHTS AGO. JUST UNBELIEVABLE. ANOTHER VERY STRANGE THING IS THAT AT 9:30 THIS MORNING WE WERE 37F AND EDMONTON WAS 37F. GO FIGURE. SPEND ALL THIS MONEY TO COME DOWN TO WARM TEMPS. CRAZY.

HOPE YOUR COLD IS IMPROVING. I’VE BEEN FIGHTING ONE AS WELL. SEEMS TO GET BETTER THEN IT’S BACK AGAIN.

A physicist was on the CBS morning show the other day explaining why there is so much cold and snow. He said (of course one school of thought) that it’s a direct result of global warming-air currents and such. He pointed right at Mexico on the map. Something about how the warm air meets the moisture and circulates…… I dozed off at that point. I do know that we have had warmer winters than we ever had before. I remember as a kid it would drop down to -40 or more, and stay there for weeks. Now it gets -18 for two nights then warms up and rains, which it is doing right now. In my 60 years, I had never seen it rain in Jan. or Feb. in Montana until the last 5 years or so.

  3. Brrr is right, we are at Casa Grande and was 20f last night up to about 50f during the day and very cold winds. The bonus in our resort was our south facing patio and cement wall blocking the winds. Soon it will warm up for all of us!

My son in Austin, TX says the city is shut down because of an inch of snow. Pretty greasy stuff to drive in. My Montana-raised son won’t drive in it either!
