Who knew what the next day would bring?

Pre post note: Just in case you missed it, I posted twice yesterday.

Monday the 15th was a fun day in town for our guests on their own.  My job was to prepare dinner for the four of us and based on when they showed up here send out a bunch of emails that the impromptu party was starting at such and such a time.

I made a lovely salmon dinner with three different salads, grilled zucchini and rice.  They did have a lovely day in town and came bearing gifts.  So happy to see them having a fun and relaxed time.  In the past they never stayed more than 2 – 3 days.  But now their two sons are away in extended studies and Heriberto retired last year.

Colin and I enjoyed the sunset as we awaited our guests.

Once they arrived as I prepared dinner I sent out the invites for the evening.  Always difficult to know who to invite and how many.  We did not want Isela and Heriberto to feel that they had to perform which has happened in past years.  By the way our friendship goes back at least 12 years including Colin flying to attend the guitar festival from Acapulco.  Some folks arrive here and expect to be entertained.  This year we wanted to give more to them so they could relax without expecting to have to perform.  Everyone who was invited were told that there may or may not be music.  Interestingly we had some people show up who were not invited.  In the past we have always opened these evenings to all the RVers but this year we were concerned that they were feeling obligated to perform so it was to be by invitation only 😕

Again I have dozens and dozens of photos of what was to become my most special evening of the week.  Dinner over and as Isela and Heriberto relaxed over their cigarettes, our other guests arrived.  Tonight unlike the evening at Linda and Kevin’s most of them did not speak any Spanish.  Colin started the evening out by playing a few pieces including two or three Beatle songs.  I was just finishing up in the kitchen.

Then Colin and Heriberto played a few duets on their guitars.

From then on the evening simply evolved.

I enjoyed my role as hostess serving wine and beer and making sure that everyone was happy.  Colin is on the right, he is bent over holding Carmeh in his arms.

Isela singing Colin’s favorite song while he holds Carmeh.  She just had to be next to Colin all evening.  Whenever Isela sang Tim placed his hand over his heart.

I loved this abstract shot of the lights and fire reflected in Colin's guitar.

Then it was time for "the Margaritas DIablas" to perform.

For me to sign with Isela takes a certain amount of vino in my system be to able to let loose.

At some point a season resident, Guayo showed up and started to play. There was dancing involved.

Sometime after 2AM Isela asked for quesadillas and so a few dozen were made for everyone.

It was a fabulous evening but I was so happy to fall into bed about 4AM.

Holy cow, Mexicans sure know how to have late nights! You may have to stay up later in Canada to prepare for the next year visit 🙂

  3. Wow! Looks like a fun evening.

    I am exhausted for you.

The quesadillas are very likely their evening meal. They get up super late, so what you serve for dinner is probably their lunch, which is perhaps why you have a hard time pinning them down for that meal since it might not be at the time they are used to. Not easy merging two cultures!

Actually the quesadillas are their 2 AM snack, dinner comes earlier. Don’t forget Colin lives with them in their home for a week at a time every year. Don’t forget they were on holiday here so their times are off.
