A tale of two cities
Today we drove to Marysville, Washington, a total of 322 miles. It was not an easy drive due to the weather conditions.
It rained hard all night In Eugene. Not a pleasant pack up this morning nor drive along I5. The girls were not impressed and were shivering despite having a pile of blankets over them.
Fortunately the rain lessened somewhat as we hit Portland and its multitude of overpasses.
The rain stopped and the sun made a brief appearance as we approached Seattle.
Much more traffic and more overpasses.
It was a lot to deal with in one day and we are tired. I can’t imagine living in Seattle and dealing with that amount of traffic on a daily basis. Finally got to the Walmart in Marysville and were able to get in a good walk before the showers began.
I was going to reply to your comments individually re my last post but I really am exhausted. Just wanted to clarify that that was a Casita behind us in Eugene. Lucy, there are a few people besides RV Sue who live in one and also write blogs. Susan, just to clarify, my sloppy joes were made with Yves veggie ground round. We haven’t eaten meat for close to forty years. We actually used to be strictly vegan but added fish and dairy when we began to RV as it was much easier, especially in Mexico. Many thanks Bob for your idea re the jack issue.
We are only about an 80 – 90 minute drive to the Canadian border and will cross early in the morning. We have a 10:00AM appointment to have our annual RV service done in Delta ( Vancouver area ). That will likely take most of the day. Our plan will be to pick up some grocery items in town then visit friends for an early dinner and then head back to the RV where we will hook up and drive till about 11PM where we will spend the night in a rest area. We hope to be home by noon on Saturday when the huge unloading begins. Fingers crossed that that will all happen as planned. I may have internet for a few hours tomorrow but then not till we get home Saturday. So you won’t hear from us for a few days.
So looking forward to being home. Love the Isla, love the RV and love Kelowna, now it’s time to the love the latter.

That is a heck of a drive in bad weather. Your photos of Seattle reminded me of the times I would go to Seattle while living on Whidbey Island for 10 years. My brother still lives in the Seattle area and fights that traffic daily to work. I tell him he’s crazy. Anyway I am sure you are ready to get home, that is a long trip up through the center of the state of California and then the I-5 through Oregon and Washington.
The rain photo in Eugene also reminded me may days of living in the PNW, although the sun shines more days than advertised. Seattle traffic …. no room to expand and hasn’t had in a million years, thus more overpasses I guess.

Looks like you are getting close to home. I hope you have some sunny warm weather when you get home. We love traveling in Canada. Such wide open spaces.
We have lived in Seattle for 35 years. I-5 is busy all the time now. We have a truck camper and usually leave town Monday through Friday between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm week days. Weekends are busy due to games and events.
We use the light rail system to get into town. It runs every 10 minutes and cost seniors $1.00 (with a two hour transfer time).
Having now traveled in both Seattle and LA, I have to say that LA has the worst traffic that we have EVER encountered. As you said, I don’t know how these people can deal with that kind of traffic every day, I know that we certainly couldn’t.

Welcome home! I know exactly what you mean – upon our return from Spain hubby kept saying how nice it is to go away but even better to return to somewhere you love – for us that means Vancouver Island and for you Kelowna. I haven’t been to Seattle in 30 plus years but we went to Portland 2 years ago and don’t wish to do that again. We will do the oregon coast next year but avoid the big cities as much as possible 🙂
