Stranded during an evacuation
We loaded till 9PM and discovered a problem with the batteries. Nothing could be done till daylight today as we were in a deep puddle of water and the batteries were arching. Called Freightliner at 10PM and they were there and would have come this morning but our go to RV tech ( another good one here in Kelowna ) also answered his phone late last night. He was here at 8AM this morning. All is well.
The lake continues to rise and we are now 60% surrounded by water, maybe more. We are safe ,all is well and we got to spend a final night in our home. We’ve only been home just over three weeks and it is sad to say goodbye. We have loaded our business into the RV as well as clothes and food as we have no idea how long we will be gone. Possible several weeks. Possibly a year if the water rises into our home. The basement is empty but there is still a lot of water to come down the mountains. Apparently Beaver Lake just above us is still frozen solid and we get a lot of run off from there in the spring. More rain in the forecast, etc.
So we are about to lock the door ( 11AM ) for who knows how long. We have found the only RV site in all of Kelowna that can take us until June 1st. Sadly it is a dump but it has full hook ups and wifi. We have to register with Emergency Services once we drop off the RV, then go pick up my car in West Kelowna where Colin left it at Freightliner yesterday. The RV just has everything thrown inside, it will take time to sort that out. Once we are organized again I will post photos, etc.
Did you know that our street is called Lake Lane? It certainly is a lake today.

Even in the middle of all the flooding, the only way to relax is to count your blessings; you are both safe and sound and are in familiar surroundings of your RV. In addition, you can say to yourself, “Ain’t homeowner’s insurance great!” However, the vino certainly helps to do the above. We are thinking of you two and praying that Mother Nature and the Kelowna population are at peace again with each other.
What is that saying “when it rains you need to pour” thank goodness for vino. Seriously though you guys sure have not had an easy time of it lately. Take care, hopefully you will be back home soon. I think I read that the exvac order was lifted at Fintry. It can all change so fast. Thanks for the update.
Shelagh, “when it rains you need to pour”–I love that and will tuck that away for my nerves during our hurricane season.
Well, we are happy to hear you at least got the important things out of the house. We have all stayed in dumpy RV parks when we had to, something nicer will open up. Like Dee says, Homeowners Insurance will pay for most or all of the extras you have to do.

Not good News. We hope the house is OK.
Glad that you are out of the house ok, with all the important stuff. At least you have the RV to live in until the water goes done and you can get back into your house. Others aren’t so lucky. 🙁
As for the RV park being a dump, if you shut your blinds and grab a glass of wine, you would never know what is just outside. 😉
