Windchill -3C !!!!!

7:00AM on a cool spring morning in Kelowna….hmmmm!   We have been using both the furnace and the fireplace since we returned 6 days ago.

It looks like many of my roses did not survive the winter. This is the first time I have seen black stems. I don't plan on pulling them out yet, just in case.

Some of my plants do show the promise of new growth!

But even the early spring flowers are behind just as spring is late everywhere.

The girls just hate wearing their fleece coats and run away when we try to put them on but it does decrease some of their shivering. Note that Colin is still wearing shorts!

If you care to follow the weather here in Kelowna you can click on this link to a weather report with a live webcam of the local mountains & lake just at the bottom of the page.

Also there is a live webcam here at Holiday Park Resort, in fact we are just to the left of the scene at the lake.  You can’t see us but you know what kind of weather we are having!  Please note that the Park webcam is stuck on March 1, I’m sure it is on the park’s to be repaired list!!!

  1. Awww, the roses! I am always sad when my plants don’t survive.

I had a flashback to my bogainvillea plant that didn’t survive the winter here in California. In Nayarit they grow like weeds!

Good luck bringing your roses back to life!

  2. brrr. our turn will come, at the Flying J tonight in Birmingham Alabama still 85f at 5:00pm, soon summer will be there!

We had the dogs at the vet yesterday. He told us that their hobby orchids are a full month behind because of all the snowy and overcast days. Even the greenhouse couldn’t make them grow any faster! They have a big show this weekend and aren’t sure they’ll have anything to show. It sounds like they’re missing California!
