What’s in your gas tank?

Remember when we were crossing back into the USA on March 29th,  from Mexico at the Sonoyta/Lukeville border and a fellow ahead of us was having his fuel tank scoped by the border guards?  Well according to the following article (sent to me by a friend) there was good reason for it………..the article refers to the very same day that we crossed!

CBP Finds Nearly Half Ton of Marijuana on Tour Bus (Tuesday, March 29, 2011)

San Diego — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro port of entry Friday seized nearly half a ton of marijuana hidden in the gas tank of a commercial tour bus attempting to cross into the United States.

At about 9:30 a.m. on March 25, a CBP officer roving through the lanes of traffic waiting to enter the U.S. screened a commercial tour bus driven by a 38-year-old male Mexican citizen with a valid border crossing card, or DSP-150. The human/narcotic dog alerted to the gas tank of the bus.

Using a fiber optic scope, CBP officers confirmed anomalies with the gas tank.

CBP officers removed 252 packages of marijuana from the gas tank, weighing about 998 pounds, and worth an estimated $600,000.

CBP seized the bus and narcotics, and turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The driver was booked into the Metropolitan Correction Center.

wow, 998 Lbs is a lot of extra weight plus not having much space in his fuel tank, was he using propane to power him? At least thats $600 000 worth of drugs not on our streets. Way to go.

  2. Makes you wonder how much actually does get through, along with guns and anything else they can get through. They will always try to find new ways. I guess this one didn’t work so well.

Once those dogs focus, that’s it. I would still like to see marijuana NOT classified as a drug and become legal. It is not a gateway drug and I would certainly rather be on the road with someone who just took a toke, rather than someone who just downed a fifth of Jack Daniels!

The weather has finally turned the corner and is greeting summer weather and so far this week, no fog! Stone Island, I hope, is getting a few Semana Santa visitors as those poor business people need a boost for sure. Bet you are almost counting the days until your return and I’m sure the pups are dreaming of iguanas and beaches.
