Serious fire happening now
We got back from our trip, more on that another day.
Meanwhile I just looked up from my desk and saw this………the wind is blowing it east along our hills and very quickly.
It is getting larger fast.
You can see how strong the wind is based on the white caps on our lake.
They say that it was a cigarette butt that started the fire.
Colin is leaving his job and coming home just in case.
They are calling it a monster fire. I am viewing a live feed with audio comments as I type this.
At the moment we are safe as long as the fire keeps burning in a straight line north and does not come over the hills towards us.
The winds are so strong that I have had to close all our windows.
publishing with no proofing……
FIRE UPDATE @ hours later:
The winds have shifted slightly and the fire has turned east so for now we are in no danger as the intensity has shifted away from us. However over 1200 people are being evacuated and the fire has grown within a few hours to over 300 hectares. It continues to rage out of control.
FIRE UPDATE @ 7PM….
Not much more to report at 9PM. We can no longer see anything of the fire from here as it has shifted further east of us. The winds are dying down where we are so hopefully the same is happening closer to the fire.
Quite the ride we have been on this afternoon but I am certain that we are totally safe this evening. The fire continues to rage and is estimated at 380 hectares.

And there is no end in sight to this dry spell. Stay safe, hope colin will be there soon…
Colin is here and I have just done an update. If you are subscribed to comment updates you should get this.
We just had a new fire start just south of us. The valley is so filled with smoke it’s hard to breath. Will these fires never end!!! Praying the fire stays away from you.
Sandie I sometime wonder what our world is headed to. So very many tragedies. I just posted an update.
Not disputing the experts, but how do they know it was a cig butt?
They say that it started at an intersection of 2 roads and with the wind went from there. No other reasons for a fire to start from there, not an ATV location, no lightening today so what else? At the moment who cares as to the detail how it started but more inportant the devastation it is causing.
Yet another nasty fire, I just saw that fire on the news and thought of you guys. Here’s hoping it stays away. I can’t email you as cannot access your email (we don’t have windows based email so when I click on your email nothing happens) but if you want you are welcome to email me with any Spain questions at livingrichonthecheap@gmail.com. Crossing all fingers and toes for you – what a nasty nasty summer this has been.
I have tried to email you. Meanwhile we are doing well due to the winds moving this fire away from us. However I keeping worrying about all the animals caught up in this mess. I have no worries about humans as they can simply drive away.
I watched it start from our daughter’s living room window this afternoon. By the time I left near 6:00 p.m. the fire was huge! Here is hoping the winds die and they get it under control.
Human stupidity will always be with us, but I was wondering, since you have shown that at least the two recent fires have started along the roadways, if the local governments could spray a fire retardant along the sides of the roads in populated areas, especially during a heavy drought. We do that along Interstate 26 during drought because we have so much growth between the multiple lanes traveling east and west.
Good luck with yet another wildfire, lets hope that they are soon over for at least this year.
