Snakes in the garden!

So many little things have been happening but the one that stands out in my mind is the day Caeli caught the snake.  The girls likes to ‘hunt’ in the rocks at the beach site and this particular day we were making a to do list for the yard when I looked over and there was Caeli violently shaking something long and thin.  It was a snake!!!  Probably a garter snake but in all the confusion I never got a photo, Colin managed to get the snake ( it was about 18 inches long) back to the rocks leaving a trail of blood along the patio.  Obviously Caeli had been going for the kill.  Yuck!!

Common Kelowna area garter snake.

A few days later Caeli was trying to get our attention, she was ‘quietly’ barking and going to and fro before I realized she wanted us to come right now!!!  So Colin, Carmeh and I went over to the rocks.

We searched and searched trying to see wanted she wants us to. I really wish they could talk, it would make things so much easier.

Finally we found what she had seen…

Not just one but several snakes!!!

I suspect that we might have a nest of snakes in our rocks.  Wonderful!  I did not want the girls climbing over the large rocks trying to capture a critter as I was afraid they might slip and fall.  In order to discourage the girls and the snakes Colin flung one of them into the lake.  Well Caeli took off down to the beach in the blink of an eye, she wanted her snake.  I thought she was going to go swim for it like she did for the crabs in Mexico but the water was too cold.  Meanwhile the others had slithered away but Caeli stayed on snake patrol all day and did spot them from time to time.  Using todays’ Spanish Word of the Day, I would have to say that Caeli was ‘absorbenta’ with the snake.  Not sure of the correct grammar but I bet Trinidad does.  Let me know.

  1. Always something to keep you occupied and the girls as well. You must be having some warm weather for the snakes to come out.

  2. Chuck & Sandy says:

if you mean absorbed the spanish translation would be absorbido
not sure if the word of the day applies?
