Carnaval parade 2018

Thanks to wonderful friends who invited us to their lovely condo overlooking the malecon to watch the parade.  We had a great view being only one floor up from the pool level, great food to munch on, drinks and most importantly a bano 😀   The first parade we saw was in 2012 which remains our favorite and the last one was back in 2014.  It you wish to see the photos and blog post just type in Carnaval parade in the search box in the top right corner.  Usually I would do links to those for you but I have begun my research into our Europe trip and the day slips by.  It is now almost 8PM and I am just starting to write this post and dinner is yet to come.

It wasn’t long after we arrived that the commercial parade started. These folks are enjoying the view from the pool.  This float is promoting Fresca.

Isn’t this a great view?

Still part of the parade they call the ‘commercial parade’ where all the sponsors have floats.

These lovely ladies are part of a float advertising a new restaurant.

The route is long and takes up to five hours from beginning to end.

Here comes the start of the official parade.  Colin took these shots from the 6th floor viewing area.

Very bright and colorful floats.

This was a very large float.

Leon lives in Walla Walla Washington, one of the many folks we met from there on this particular evening. He says that he comes to Kelowna every summer and will come and visit us.

The parade seemed to go by quickly this year.  It always ends with some dancing horses followed by in this case, leaf blowers.  Then came the sweepers and the garbage trucks.

It wasn’t very long and the malecon looked like nothing had occurred. All the chairs, the debris and the people disappeared.  It was as clean as could be.  We simply walked out front and caught a pulmonia.

Everyone agreed that the commercial parade was the best ever but that the main parade was not as good as in previous years.

I watched the parade on TV but there were so many ads and commercials I felt like I was watching a parade on a USA station! Much better to be there. We’ve only been to one parade and it was such a horror to get home to the Cerritos end of town we haven’t gone since. Great photos. I’m researching a new camera but having a hard time making a decision.

We watched it on TV last year. My main criteria now is to have a bano and to be able to sit down. Let me know how that research goes.
