Do you have a blue mind?
I read this article way back in December and it struck a cord with me. The article is about why being near water really does make us happier. I know that for myself and Colin we prefer to be near water. We don’t have to be in it or on it but just to look at it soothes the need. Before we got the RV we usually vacationed at least once per year in Hawaii and if we could, we also took a cruise. Once we got the RV our main purpose was to camp near water, even just a river. That eventually led us to Mexico, where for many years once we had our adventures crossing Mexico in a southerly direction, on different routes, we stayed in Acapulco on the the ocean for three months or so before heading home each year. This will be our tenth winter on Isla de la Piedra, just off of Mazatlan. Our last home in Vancouver/Ladner was on a creek and we were only a block from the Fraser River with paths that we walked along. Once we discovered this place in Kelowna, where we now live, we knew that this was it. This is our third lot in this park and our second home. When we moved into our new home here in 2003 we could see the lake and now we are right on it.
Soothing.
To read the article click here. It is a bit long but easy to skim. It explains the scientific reasons that we are drawn to lakes, rivers and oceans. I hope that you enjoy reading this as much as I did. Let me know your thoughts.

Nice that you enjoy being by the water, I are up living close to the lakes and rivers, camped at beaches and have always enjoy them, along with cruises, but don’t seem to have the need anymore to spend time by the water that I used to.
I love them all, but my favorite sound is ocean waves, and even though this is not natural, I also love fountain sounds!
Living near the coast is essential for us, there is nothing more soothing than the sight and sound of water.
I think I am one too, since we moved so close to the ocean (less than 1 km away) I don’t think I could ever be far away from it now. I see it every single day as I run errands to when we walk the dog on the beach. It is my happy place.
I am from a land locked state in the USA but water has always been important to me. We have a WV State Park right in the middle of our town that has a stream running through it plus our famous Spring that comes from the ground at 74 degrees year round and creates an over-flow stream where all we kids played on hot summer days. Ten miles to the South of us we have the Cacapon State Park with a very nice man-made lake that has a white sandy beach and to the West is the Cacapon River where we spent many hours as a family while growing up. But it was not until I was an adult that I was able to spend time by the ocean and only after retirement could we spend sufficient time by the ocean in Mexico. It is soothing to my soul, calming and restful. To be able to watch the ocean while drinking a cup of coffee gets me in the right frame of mind for the day. On the few days that it is turbulent the power and strength of the ocean is exciting and the devastation it can cause when it is stormy is nearly overpowering. But when it returns to calm again so go I.
Great article…I do feel so much better when I’m near water.
