This last Saturday morning. We can just see the lake.
Later in the day.
Sunday morning. There is a lake out there somewhere!
Our province ( like a US state ) sent a request to the Federal government for help. They are sending in troops and equipment including aircraft to help movethe firefighters as well as those who have been evacuated. 149 new fires have been started in the past 48 hours.
Taken this morning. If you step outside it smells like a dirty ashtray. We have been living inside for two days now. The air quality is at a 10+ with 10 being the highest.
A wee bit of light filtered through late this afternoon. My tiny green tomatoes were happy.
Late this afternoon the smoke lessened. I could see the lake again but not the hills and mountains.
There just may be hope after all.

We had been relatively smoke free until yesterday, then the smoke came in and we can’t even see our mountain in behind the valley. Most of the island is the same except West Cost (Tofino) as they get more wind to move it out. We have a lot of fires here on the island but this is mainly from the interior. I hate it…feel super sorry for those dealing with it daily. I do not understand why it has taken this freaking government (not a fan) so long to ask for help from the feds. Ridiculous in my opinion.
So sorry to hear that the smoke has reached your protected area. I totally agree with you re the government not to mention how long they took to implement the campfire ban.
Hopefully soon those fires will let up and all will be well. sure does not look like a nice place to enjoy the summer weather.
I am amazed at the number of folks sitting out by the pool in the smoke.
Oh my!!!
Exactly!!!
I can’t believe the fires are still raging. I also can’t believe that Mexico has had very few and small fires considering the drought and the high temps. We had one small fire, 8 acres caused by a bus that went over a cliff. No passengers aboard and the driver survived. Fire is out. We have had some big ones in the past but we also have controlled burns.
They have now declared a provincial state of emergency re the fire situation. They say it will be like this for a long time. I think that BC is too big to do controlled burns.
