California vs BC

We were invited to a party, a happy hour.  There are often many such late afternoons here in the park but the weather has affected plans this summer and there have been very few gatherings.  This is probably the first year we haven’t had a happy hour at our beach site followed by campfires and music.  You know, the kind of party that starts about 4PM and goes till midnight.  I miss those.  Maybe in September……

The honored guests from San Francisco were here visiting family.  They have been to a variety of wineries over the past few days and wanted to share some of their selections.  There was much discussion of California wines versus our local B.C. wines.  In the end we agreed that each had great selections.

The San Francisco couple use to do a great deal of hiking.  On one particular backpacking expedition in Yosemite they started at a base camp and ascended to 5 five more camps, one each evening.  The most discussed topic was how to carry their wine.  Some people chose the extra weight of carrying the glass bottle.  Others decided to chance bruising the wine by transferring it into a plastic bottle making the load lighter.  Sally was explaining to us that one particular couple seemed to have the finest of wines each evening.  Finally she asked them how they managed to carry so much wine along with their other supplies! It seems that they had  pre couriered their wines up to each night camp via Federal Express.  Fed Ex had hired a mule train to take up the wine.  Cost $50.00!  Simply brilliant.  Sally was disappointed that they hadn’t thought of it.

Diane, thanks for such a wonderful 'appy' hour!!

It was so nice to get out and to enjoy the evening.  Of course as often happens, happy hour turned into dinner as the hostess served so many tasty appies.  We left about 7PM as we had not yet fed our fur babies.

Never in a million years would have thought that Fed Ex would courier wine up the mountain by mule and for only $50. That just really amazes me. Great appetizers.

  2. A good commercial for Fed Ex. All that hiking deserves a good wine. Happy hour , appie hour, social hour all is good enjoying the stories and the chat! looks like too much fun.
