I only went to bed at 11:30PM on December 11th but at midnight loud cannon like sounds began and went on for at least ten minutes. Ah, of course twas now December 12th and time to start the greatest national fiesta of the year—the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. How could I have forgotten. The loud cannon sounds started again before dawn. Later fireworks and fire crackers were heard throughout the day. Some locals had created special shrines in honor of the day. I didn’t want to intrude and poke though their fences to take photos.
Seems like we are now going into Mazatlan once a week for fresh veggies and fish. Loved how the plant has adapted to its space.
Each street in town is unique.
I would be happy living up there. Love the plants on the balconies.
I imagine what the house would have looked like, before I look at the wall art.
A very shiny tree in the square next to the Cathedral. Hopefully we will get back at night to check out these decorations all lit up.
The usual families bringing their children in in costume to have their photos taken.
Just an example of one of the elaborate photo booths complete with props and lights.
I think this little guy was too small to be terrified. Others were screaming. Did you notice Dad’s hand holding the child in place and his knee sticking out?
There are photo op booths lined up all along the Catherdral. It was before noon and it was not as busy as we have seen in the past.
Click here for my post on the day of the Virgin de Guadalupe taken last year where I posted many more photos.
Back on the Isla we took what we call the low road back to the RV Park. A nice newly paved road. This is now part of the new Isla malecon. That is a Holland America ship in port.
As we turned a corner I spied a pig. It was tied to a tree. Once I enlarged this photo I saw the second pig in the back left behind the blue fencing. Christmas dinner? I will have to check this out later.
Back home, once all the groceries were put away I was able to sit and relax. Loved my visitor.
Not much of a sunset last night but nonetheless a lovely sky.
Always loved going into Mazatlan and exploring, nice that road is now paved.
Their used to be a couple of vegetable trucks come through the park every day, do they not do that anymore?
There is now the one veggie/fruit truck that comes daily except on Mondays. Different owner than those that you saw the months that you were here.
I’ve never been in Mexico for this – another one for the list (Day of the dead intrigues me, maybe next year)
I think that November 1st and 2nd in Pátzcuaro is what your priority should be. However Mazatlan would be very acceptable as well.
Love looking at all your pictures of Mazatlan, thanks for sharing.
I am glad that you are enjoying all the photos. Each day has something new to offer.
