Mykonos, our first port
I can’t believe that we left home only a week ago, we have done and seen so much. Another five weeks to go.
We docked at the new Mykonos port at 8AM and were there until we sailed the next morning at 7AM. It was overcast with a bit of drizzle, later in the day a mix of clouds with a few peaks of blue sky. Certainly not optimal conditions for touring and photography. We did go to old town Mykonos by buses arranged by Celestyal Cruises, they went back and forth until 4AM.
But first we had breakfast in the room compliments of Colin who runs up and down the three levels to the various restaurants and buffets. Stairs are not my friend, perhaps because of my titanium hips. I wasn’t going to eat until later and try to keep up with my intermittent fasting as best I could, but those mini croissants were warm and fresh, irresistible. We decided to sign up for onboard internet @ 25 Euro for six hours. Basically that means that even with pre writing each post, having captions written out and all the photos sorted and edited, I still take close to an hour to copy and paste to put it all together. That leaves a few minutes to read comments, check for personal emails and client emails. Once I got myself together we went and walked around the ship and several outside decks. We had decided to have lunch on board before heading into Mykonos which is 3 km away from our ship. Again I have to say that the buffet is first class with such a variety of delicious foods. I made myself a large Greek salad as all the bits were there but in different locations along the buffet line, added some couscous, a small piece of fish, some tasty Turkish beans and was happy.
As the photos below will show you we toured around the town, saw the famous windmills and Little Venice. I have no idea how Colin managed such a great photo of the windmills as they were surrounded by people and shops, etc. I am going to add Colin’s name to the shots that he took and the rest are mine. We only spent a few hours in Mykonos and part of that was chatting with our friends from Spain in both Spanish and French. The one couple own a home within 30 minutes of Barcelona and travel Europe in their smaller caravan ( RV ). We just may be seeing them there someday on a future trip.
Back on board we rested, napped and I finished a book that I have been reading on my iPad. I love reading on it and it has worked perfectly for both of us when we have internet. We changed for dinner and stopped for a drink in the sports bar prior to dinner. We and many others are finding the ship to be very cool and many are wearing jackets inside. I have complained a few times but it makes no difference. If it was warmer, I would like to sit in a lounge and read and sip a wine. I had another Ouzotini ( enough of the licorice taste for me, I will try something new next time ) while Colin had a Mykonos Gold, which is made of tequila, Bacardi, coconut creme and juices. Dinner was another interesting meal with a lovely chocolate desert that I just had to taste and then eat every bite? The show was ‘ A tribute to Abba in Greece ‘ and of course was the musical Mamma Mia, sped up and performed in 45 minutes. A wonderful way to end the evening. We later received a surprise in our cabin which I thought looked like a dachshund who was laying down, it came with two special Greek treats.

We are docked next to where ferries come and go all day long, so not boring to be on the port side. Lots of activity.

There is a fellow living here, just next to out dock on a tiny spit of land. He has done a good job of making it look like home.
Three more cruise ships came in before 11PM.

Wow, what an adventure, I bet it takes a lot of training to create those towel and fruit figures!
Certainly looks like a decent ship – back when Olympic cruise line was around (out of business) 25 years ago I did 3 days in Athens and a four day cruise. It was a super old ship though and not great which is likely why they went out of business. Perhaps it was best that it was a cloudy day in Mykonos as it is known for it’s nude gay beaches…I distinctly remember that travel agent familiarization trip with us touring a hotel, opening the window and accidentally gazing down upon a bunch of naked people (mostly men) lol. A bit of a shock to us innocent travel agents. I hope better weather find you soon!
Nice city and sometimes grey day pictures are good. I’ll bet the staff is keeping the ship cool for their working conditions…to heck with you?

Most cruise ports have lots of internet cafés close to the docks, so that crew members can catch up with friends & family back home. It would be a less-expensive option for catching up on personal email and the like. Looks like a fun cruise!
