Here are some new things I have discovered in the past week regarding travel to Mexico.
Good news on the road conditions traveling south from Nogales.
We had a friend cross the border last week at Nogales and drive down to Zihuatanejo, while making notes as to the condition of the roads.
What a report!!!! With the exception of one kilometer north of Hermosillo where you are sent over to the other side and it’s one lane each way, all construction is complete and all of the bypasses are done!!!
He did comment that there was a much larger police presence than he’s seen in the past and they were using radar guns. The roads are so good and so fast that they are enforcing the speed limits.
He makes this drive twice a year and in the past hasn’t really worried about his speed. This time he kept it to no more than 10 KPH over the posted limits and did fine.
Further more I was sent this video by blog reader Sandy who got this from her friend Lorraine. It is a video on the new Hermosillo bypass. If it is not coming up properly on the blog email me and I will send you a different link.

There is a great deal of controversy about Canadians being able to use their Shaw satellite in Mexico. I have been in communication with a couple who live on Stone Island, Mazatlan and they continue to use Shaw to this day. They did actually go through the channel change to the HD channels back in August/September and they are currently watching TV ( Canadian content ) just fine with the new satellite. They do however have two satellite dishes on their roof. Perhaps our dual LNB’s will suffice. If not, it may cost us up to $400.00 US to get two new dishes. Or perhaps the Mazatlan Shaw service will be able to sort out our problem. Or you just might have to sign up with the Maz service for $520.00 for six months. At this time I am not sure if that is pesos or USD. I am fairly confident that we will be able to get Canadian Shaw TV.
I just discovered a link to sorting out your trip in a variety of ways including the cost of your tolls.
The link to that Mexican site can be found by clicking here.
Hopefully most of you are aware of the problems in Culiacan this last week. Please know that HWY 15D does go around Culiacan and there is no reason to be concerned. There are links that can be checked as you get closer to crossing into Mexico.
Also there is this is a Facebook page that seems to be quite up to date. I don’t do FB so this link might be outdated but those of you who know FB will be able to sort it out. The more information the better.
I suggest that if you are traveling south in the next few weeks that you follow this blog and I will keep you updated as best I can. We plan to cross into Mexico on November 9th and I hope to post every day. If someone is crossing before us please send me an email ( top right, 4th line down ) with any pertinent information so that I can share it with all my blog readers. I apologize for the change in font size and how everything is running together. I have no idea why, but as we are leaving first thing in the morning I need to deal with my priority which is packing. I hope that some of this information is of value to you.
Meanwhile here in Kelowna this poor deer got caught up in the city streets yesterday, Wednesday.
BIG PROBLEMS HERE IN THE STATES AS WELL WITH SATELLITE. SEEMS THAT HALF THE COUNTRY HAS BEEN CUT OFF. THIS FROM MY EDMONTON FRIEND WHO ARRIVED IN PALM SPRINGS A FEW WEEKS AGO. HE CALLED YESTERDAY ASKING ME WHAT TO DO. ME, WHO HAS NO INTEREST IN ANY SATELLITE SERVICE. LOL.
SOUNDS AS IF YOUR TRIP IN MEXICO WILL HAVE FEWER BUMPS AND EASIER DRIVING. PROBABLY BE MORE BUMPY HERE IN THE DESERT SOUTHWEST WHERE OUR WINDS WERE 40 MPH YESTERDAY AND WE DID HAVE A FIRE HERE WHICH THREATENED 15 HOMES BUT ALL THE SURROUNDING PEOPLE WERE ON THE SCENE AND SAVED THE DAY.
So very much controversy over this Shaw business. Tell your friend to not let Shaw know who she is if she calls them. She will be off it she tells them. For years now, you are not to use it in the USA or Mexico but we all have. We certainly hope that the road will be smoother. OMG a fire in your area. Not good. We drove in 70 winds today.
Safe travels – hopefully you can get the tv issue sorted before you get there. If not consider watching online maybe on your laptop depending on how good the internet is in the park. You could always get netflix and then click on local news stations for updates.
The TV issue has become a major to do for all the RVers. I don’t think that it will be solved before we arrive on the Isla. However we will set up our dish on Monday in Vegas so that might give us an inkling. The internet is barely strong enough to do basic emails so no Netflix. Although I suspect that others are doing it hence the slow internet.
Hi Colin and Contessa,
I know you’re leaving tomorrow and probably up to your earlobes with last minute details.
We wanted to send you our good vibes for a safe trip!!
Please don’t feel like you should answer this as we know you’re very busy.
Take care and looking forward to seeing you in December.

Wishing you traveling mercies, good weather, safe drivers around you and a wonderful trip to the Isla.
Thank you my special friend. I count on your traveling mercies. I believe that they protect us.

I was going to post that picture of the deer on Bernard by Starbucks on my post but forgot. And I love the last photo, it is so true!
