Another diagnosis

Those three cruise ships that we expected Tuesday showed up on Wednesday.  This Princess ship is that last of the three to arrive.

It was just being thrust towards the dock as we were leaving at 8AM for an appointment in Mazatlan.

Always a pleasure to cross the shipping channel into Mazatlan.  Three large ships is unusual though.  Holland America on the left, the Norwegian in the middle and the Princess on the right.

Long story short.  Instead of heading out to get an MRI, we first stopped to see Dr. Takashi Asaishi at Medicina Alternativa Japonesa.  He had returned my call by accident Tuesday evening and after hearing my tail of woe fit me in at 9AM Wednesday.  I wasn’t there fire minutes when he declared that my problem was thrombus.  Just a small clot in a small vein but enough to cause the swelling in certain areas, that heat and the pain.

He very carefully explained everything and also did a chiropractic check and according to him my body is not out.  So here I have an acupuncture needle behind my knee right next to the navy blue band.  He then hooked up an electrical nerve stimulation system which went on for a very long time.

Meanwhile the rest of the leg was ever so carefully massaged and then every 5 – 8 minutes a new heat compress was applied. Then I was flipped over and the massage and compresses continued on the front of the leg.  A good deal of Icy/Hot pain relief balm was also liberally applied.  The plan is to stimulate the veins to flow smoothly and to decrease the inflammation.

Dr. Takashi believes that this will help and that I am to continue doing what I can, here at home.  He is such a wonderful person and was the first to reach out to give me a hug.  Sadly he leaves Saturday with his family to spend Christmas in Tokyo.  He did give he his private email address in case I had any questions.

A totally different diagnosis.  Also it does make sense to use heat as that will open up the blood vessels.  All that ice I have been using has not been of benefit to me.  I was in his office for well over an hour and was treated as if I was the most important person there.  He does have four treatment rooms and moves between them all.  As we were leaving another Canadian couple was telling us how much he had helped them after just two treatments.  I want to thank long time blog reader Linda ( who is arriving January 1st for a few months and will be staying somewhere here on the Isla ) for forwarding me Dr. Takashi’s information.  If things do not improve by the end of the year I will be looking into x-rays, etc. However my inflammation does appear to be reduced just a bit today.  Once day at a time.

Those boats represent a huge amount of tourists visiting Mazatlan. We saw many of them here on the Isla once we got home.

Holland America was the first one out of port and was heading north.

Next was the new ship, the Norwegian Joy.  As you can see, a massive boat.

A feeding frenzy.

The Norwegian ship was heading further south.

Meanwhile the AC repair team was here and were working on taking out the old compressor at the back of the RV.

This fellow was working on removing the air filter at the front of the RV.

The old and the new compressors. Glad we decided to get the entire unit replaced rather than just the one section.

As you can see they worked late. They did not finish the job but got the majority of the work done.

Yesterday felt like a very long day to me.

The Princess headed out quite a bit later.

I see my name on your filter box…If things work great, I’ll take the credit, if not, I know nothing…

I sure hope the new doc is able to make you feel back to normal..That’s the only issue with us getting “older”…dang-it…
The other morning it was 8* , good thing I finally drained my water heater in my Winnebago…
I had put it off because as motor home owners know it’s usually a pain in the rear…It was..

Today I cleared snow from my drive and all around, finished by 10 A.M……Looking out now, 1.5′ of new snow, I am getting buried…..Enjoy your sunrises-sets, your summer home is only 80 some miles north of me……
    Take care, eh?

Good thing that you did drain that water. You would have been in a really mess. I heard that it was snowing a lot up there. I guess you will be having a white Christmas.

I had been having a foot trouble in my right foot for 30 years. then when I was working in Washington, my doctor there suggested acupuncture as possible solution. After 30 years of no success I went for it. Two treatments with a day between them and now about fifteen years later I still have no trouble with that foot. Now if acupuncture could do as well for my memory.

Nice to hear from you Barney. Amazing how acupuncture helped you so quickly. I wish this doctor was going to be around next week but hopefully I will continue to improve.

Good luck with the new doctor hope things work out and you soon get better,

  5. Glad you are getting some relief with this new doctor even if you have to see him again in the New Year.
Those Ships are floating Cities and the newer ones can carry as many as Five Thousand people.
When the AC is completed you’ll have Years of worry free travels.
Be Safe and Enjoy the Isla.

    It’s about time.

I can’t imagine being on such a huge ship. Loved our small sized cruise that we did in Greece this past May. I certainly hope that the AC will last a long time.

  6. To me that makes so much more sense – so glad you found a competent Dr – and a caring one. Hopefully if you do your own heat treatments it will continue to get better until he gets back.

I am working with a heating pad but I miss the instant pain control with an ice pack. But I do feel a bit better and stronger.
