This northern flicker which is a medium-sized bird of the woodpecker family has been hanging around for a few weeks now. We have them back home but this is the first time that we have seen it here. It prefers to eat the oranges that Colin puts out for the orioles. We always know that it is around by its unique call.
I had my first physiotherapy visit yesterday. Octavio came with his ultrasound machine and gave me a ten minute treatment. That is the maximum amount of time you can do in a session. The heat and electrical impulses did create some twinges in my knee. He did say that my knee looked amazing and was impressed that the swelling was almost totally gone.
Seeing as I was paying him for a full hour I decided to take advantage of his being here. I asked him for some exercises to increase my upper body strength. Fortunately we had some weights with us and I am starting with the one pound weights. Here I was asking him to check my neck as it keeps locking at times. He showed Colin were to massage and suggested I apply heat and Icy/Hot ointment a few times per day. As you can see he is very tall and his head is just a few inches below our ceiling.
I continue to do my cryotherapy every four hours but have decided that I really need to sleep at night so I am not doing it at four in the morning.
We had two large ships in yesterday. This is the Carnival Panorama which holds 5070 guests and 1450 crew. This is the largest ship visiting our port. The Royal Princess was also docked here yesterday and it holds 4360 guests with a crew of 1346. It is the third largest cruise ship with the Norwegian Joy being the second largest. It was in today and holds 4620 guest and a crew of 1821. Interesting that the second largest ship holds more crew than the largest vessel.
Last evening Colin joined several other RVers to see Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges at La Bohemia at the Plazuela Machado. Eugene was born in New Orleans and calls himself an American blues and soul singer, songwriter, guitarist and band leader. He writes all his own music. He is in Mazatlan for a few months. Incredible evening. Before he left Colin prepared my dinner which I just had to heat up. I am so glad that Colin was able to have an evening out.

Glad you are getting Physio Therapy. It helps the Healing within the knee and will help you be back on your feet sooner.
Nice that Colin got out to enjoy ‘Hideaway’
Be Safe and be patient while your knee heals. Enjoy!
It’s about time.
Yes the ultrasound will help promote the healing. I am mostly being patient but sometimes I just want to go somewhere, anywhere!
On the road to recovery and a stronger you…super! We battle the very beautiful but destructive flickers at home. Even though we are surrounded by forest they continually destroy the building paper under the metal roofs in Eric’s very large out buildings. At least everything is concrete here.
I had no idea that the flickers would do that. Sorry to hear for your sake.
So glad that things are going well with your knee. What a lovely place to recuperate! I am sure you will be a bit happier when you can do things for yourself but in the meantime, enjoy your peace
I am doing a tiny bit more every day. One day I did 1000 steps and it was too much. I am enjoying relaxing and reading and looking outside.
Northern Flickers eat mainly insects, especially ants and beetles that they gather from the ground. They also eat fruits and seeds, especially in winter. Flickers often go after ants underground (where the nutritious larvae live), hammering at the soil the way other woodpeckers drill into wood.
Maybe they are there because of the leaf-cutter ants.
Yes I am aware of them eating ants but from I can see they are only eating the tiny normal ants.
Glad you are starting to mend. A little each day and before you know it you will be back to normal. Now is the time to get caught up on all those ‘sit down chores’ so that when you are healed you can be out and about doing things that you enjoy.
