Interesting and fun things

What a fun and wonderful surprise!  Our annual travel medical insurance which is handled by Manulife had been extended for three months at no charge.  Of course none of us are traveling anywhere at the moment but it is a nice touch.

Have you ever seen the movie “The Leisure Seeker”, staring Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland?  It was filmed in 2017 and is about an older couple taking their last trip in a classic 1975 Winnebago.  You can read about the film by clicking here.  I have no idea how I missed this movie.  The write up states that you can catch the film on Amazon Prime Video, is that different than Amazon Prime?  Please let me know as Colin can’t find it on Prime and we really want to see this movie. I hope that you at least watch the trailer if not the actual movie.

I love the Northern Lights and have not seen them since a few months before my Dad passed. It was the month of September and I was staying at my Dad’s place while he was in hospital ( he never came home ) and I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. The sky was ablaze with dancing lights but I was so tired and went back to bed thinking that I had the next few months to watch them. That night back in 2014 was the last time that I have seen them, they just never appeared again. Depending on where you live you have a great, good, slim or no chance of seeing the aurora borealis. Colin and I are planning a trip up north one of these years to see them. Just a few days ago, a link came into my inbox.  Click here to read the article about how to see those special lights online. Don’t miss the bottom of this article where they show some spectacular photos. Even better here is a link to stream the Northern Lights live from Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.  I hope you have fun with this.

This was taken a few days ago on the beach in Mazatlan. The fishermen have come in with their catch and are giving the fish away to anyone who wants one.  They are very generous to those that need food right now.  This is also happening everyday on Isla de la Piedra.

I get so many things in my inbox everyday and a few of the above come from that. I have good news to share in that my inbox is down to 71 from over 600. I could not keep up as we traveled home from Mexico. Just over a week ago, I resolved that I would not read a novel until I got my inbox down to 40, almost there, thank goodness. I really miss reading for relaxation.

Taken a few days back. Yes we still have that much snow up there.

The street side of our house has a few windows that look down the street and I check the view at least every hour and for certain every time that I pass by.  Such a treat to see someone walk past.

The movie is on Netflix. I can’t find it on amazon prime video.

Strange, I found it on Prime Video(for rent, or with a STARZ free trial) but not Netflix. I wonder if there is geo-fencing going on. I am in Mexico with USA based accounts.

      Contessa,
If you have Amazon Prime, you also have Prime video. Log into Amazon and click on the dropdown labeled “Accounts & Lists” (next to the account holders name). Prime video will be about 3/4 of the way down the list in the right hand column. I’m sure that there are a hundred better ways to get to it but that is what I do. I set my VPN to Canada and it did appear that the video is available there. My US account had it priced at 3.99 USD for rental, or available with a STARZ trial.

Be sure and let me know if you find the movie..My road pal is “Lucy”..she was “born” in 1988…Winnebago.
80,000 miles and never let me down, except for a couple of errors from mechanics before a long road trip…..Their response: I didn’t do that..etc….Well you are the only one who has worked on it since I got her..They paid $$$….

My parents woke me up and dragged me out of bed when I was in 2nd grade..We lived in an apartment building my parents owned in the U of Wa district…..What are you doing to me???
Look up there!..The Northern Lights!…Ya sure, now can I go back to bed?….Some things we never forget..
    Hey!..Take Care…

  3. Hi Contessa,
Your medical insurance is quite optimistic so maybe you can go places after all. In Germany they opened up today and people can go shopping again.
I was curious why you could not read i.e. open your email while in Mexico and had to wait until you got home to look at emails?
    Cute joke pictures.

  4. Test. Comments not publishing.

Contessa – I read the book, in fact still have it somewhere on my ereader. It was very good. Will have to look for the movie.
Good to hear all is fine with you and Colin. Stay well and amused.

I found the movie on Amazon prime video, for rent or with a STARZ membership or STARZ free trial. I did not find it on Netflix. There could be geofencing going on which would explain people in different places getting different results. I did plug Canada into my VPN and it appeared that you should be able to get it.

BTW: I also had a comment that didn’t publish. This is a second try.

  8. It is amazing what we used to brush off as non-important now becomes something of excitement. When we will finally be able to freely wander around again it will be an entirely different world.
The insurance companies are making a bundle off everyone having to stay put.
The Leisure Seeker looks like our kind of movie.
Be Safe and Enjoy the solitude.

    It’s about time.

  9. Jannose says:

The Leisure Seeker was a great movie. It used to be on Netflix and might still be. Have some tissues handy!

  10. I’ve seen the northern lights several times in BC and Alberta. The problem is if you travel to them there is no guarantee of seeing them. The Leisure Seeker is not on Canadian Amazon Prime(we have it and I checked) but just like Netflix I am sure it is on the American one. That might mean down the road it is coming to the Canadian one. Nice of your insurance provider to extend, will help those who are still perhaps stuck somewhere.

So glad I read yr blog. A really bright spot in the day and look forward to it every day!!
Am going to order that movie!!

Hi as far as I know Amazon prime and prime video are one in the same,I just looked for it and also a no find for me

  13. Linda Sand says:

Dave says Amazon Prime video is included in Prime. He found the movie by spelling Leisure wrong which then corrected itself. However, it is not free. You can buy or rent it there. It’s on Netflix only as a DVD you can get by mail. However, we are in the US so all that may not be true for you. Thanks for heads up, though, as that movie is now in our cue to be sent to us.

    • contessa says:

I have discovered that being in the US is an entire different world. good to know that you found it. And thank you for clarifying that Prime Video is included in Amazon Prime.

  14. Anne-Marie says:

Contessa, The Leisure Seeker is not available under Canadian Amazon Prime Video, but it is found on Canadian Netflix.
