A bit of this and that

So glad that you all enjoyed the post yesterday on the baby ducks.  It was special to watch it evolve and to be able to share it with you.  Aren’t cameras great things?

I love this splash of colour.

Banana bread is now a given in our home. Back on May 10th.

This blog is a bunch of miscellaneous photos taken from a file called  Que Pasa. As you can see I continue to do my exercises twice per day as well as walk.

My computer desk has always had a shelf about five inches above the ground. However that meant that I could  never stretch my legs out in front of me. It was an annoyance but never a problem until my knee surgery back in January. With spare time on his hands, Colin decided to remedy the situation.  He took the shelf out and placed it up higher as you can see. Rather than a shelf it is now just a brace and gives me leg movement under my desk.  My roll top desk has always had leg room underneath but I now spend more time at the computer desk.

Very clever to take the shelf out and use it as a brace. I miss the shelf but have found another place for all those files.

A blast from the past, sent to me by my friend Jannose.  Neither of us can remember the date but it was either while I was still living in Edmonton and we visited Vancouver together for a function or when I had already moved  to Vancouver.  Either way it was at least forty five years ago. I always wore my hair short and in a frizzy perm. Funny, I recall the scarf but not the coat. Unlike me, Jannose has not changed a bit.

This one was baked June 2nd and Colin has declared it the best ever as he does every week. Have to agree, it is delicious.

Our potted cucumber plant ( grown from a seed ) is doing extremely well that we have had to made some modifications. Colin placed a few screws into our shed so that he had a place to run string up and down for more climbing support. This might be the main source of cukes for us this summer.  The two plants in the garden do not look promising although the seeds I planted a few weeks ago are up and looking healthy thus far but are only a few inches high. We already have several tiny cucumbers growing on this one.

Our first romaine from the garden. We have decided to just pick  a few of the outer leaves as needed rather that the entire plant.  That way it should last longer. Well I hope so.

We each had a small salad with some leftover goulash for lunch today.  This is the first time I have ever eaten fresh romaine out of the garden and it was extremely tasty.  I think I will be plant more next summer.

Sunset reflections a few evenings past.

Yumm, fresh lettuce! Can’t wait til ours is ready. Lucky you to see the ducks yesterday. So cute! And aren’t you nice to say I haven’t changed. I think you need to get your eyes checked!

I only have the two romaines plants, next year, more for certain. Those ducks were so very special. I’m sure that it has happened many times but we just happened to be in the right place at the time. As to my eyes, I think they are pretty good 🙂

Still chilly here in the north and all the warm weather crops like cukes and Bush beans are struggling. I always just pick the leaves off on all of my lettuce and they just keep producing more. Seems plants close to the house always do better.

Good to know. Thanks for this information, now I won’t feel so bad. I forgot to mention that the leaves on the beets were drooping but with a full day of sun yesterday they have perked up.

  3. Looks like you are already benefiting from your gardening.
Be Safe and Enjoy the Vegetables of your labour.

    It’s about time.

  4. We haven’t even started on the gigantic romaine we got from the farm market. Cucumbers already! Mine are smaller but starting to flower. I do have peas though!

Wow I didn’t realize that you can have your cucumbers growing up,have you done this before or is it an experiment? This is a game changer I will have to try this on my wee balcony if it works.

We have only done this twice, but always upright, I did not know of any other way. Everyone here grows them upright. We had lots of cukes on our single plant last summer and they were delicious. Give it a try. This is the first time I am growing them in a pot as well, but they are doing the best thus far.
