What’s making me happy
… in no particular order 😎
~ Colin’s extremely yummy banana bread. Â He is still looking for a good zucchini recipe. I keep telling him that he should work on the zucchini bread now as we have so much of it fresh out of the garden. He will have all winter to make banana bread. So I guess he is still looking for that perfect recipe without too much cinnamon.
~ a new mask that someone here in the park is selling for $3.50 each or three for $10.00. I now have a variety of four different masks and this is my favourite. I can breath, I can see and best of all my glasses don’t fog up. If I had to I could wear this on an airplane, but you won’t find me on a flight for a very long time. ~ a very very special surprise phone call from wonderful friends a few days ago. It was wonderful to hear their voices. We had not spoken since the end of March and I didn’t realize how much I missed them. Thank you so much, it meant a lot to both of us.
~ the fact that Colin is working again. Two jobs in August and thus far four for September 😀
~ now this does not make me happy. Google is screwing me up again. I can no longer make comments on the blogs that I read. Remember when I had that issue for ever so long and suddenly it worked again? Well the problem is back, so please dear bloggers, understand why I am not leaving a comment. I am still reading you though.
I am more than happy with our garden in pots here at the house. The beans have done well but we will only do them in the other garden next year. The tomatoes are outstanding and we have some very large ones as well as tiny ones and they just keep growing. For certain we will do this again next summer as well as grow lettuce in the other pots. Â The Swiss chard did not do well but we still got a wee harvest. The carrots were okay and tasty but those pots will be designated to more tomatoes as well.

~ our main garden, despite being small, is doing better than we ever expected. So very very happy with it. Perhaps it is the new plot that we have this year but it just keeps giving and giving. Not sure what I have mentioned in that past but a few weeks ago we harvested all the beets and I have replanted that area with more beets. Â I also planted more carrots at the same time. It is my understanding that both of these can stay in the ground over the winter. Once it gets cold we will harvest them and then can keep them out in the shed where it will be cold. Fridge space is limited. I also planted a small row of kale about ten days ago and late this afternoon I see that the seeds have sprouted. Â I almost forgot, someone gave me their left over onion seedlings ( not sure if that is the correct word ) and they are growing.
We have cucumbers growing in two different areas and they after some difficulty are being productive. To the right you see many tomatoes plants. Way too many. Colin got carried away and I couldn’t say no to him. I certainly plan to next spring. On the left is my wonderful kale crop, just above my bright green Swiss chard on the bottom left, which suddenly became infested with something. I have pulled it out and replanted. Â Hopefully it will grow in time for me to freeze some for the winter.
No idea what this infestation is but it did not spread and stayed within the kale.

Tonights harvest when I went to water. We have a full week of heat and sun ahead in the forecast. Many more veggies to come:) Those are two different types of cucumber to the left of the two zucchini.
~ I never get tired of our view. This morning I watched an osprey look for breakfast. It dove multiple times, it never gave up and kept spotting yet another fish just under the surface of the water. It took close to ten minutes before it caught a large fish and off it flew. The geese are practicing their formation flying.
~ overall we are healthy and the few minor problems that we have, we continue to work on and improve. Â Life is good.

It would be a worthwhile investment to make Chicken Wire Cages over the Greens in your garden to keep the Rabbits from eating the plants. Still not sure what that Fungus was. It could have been caused by too much moisture in the ground.

We don’t have rabbits eating our garden. I think there might be a few mice or rats but it wold be impossible to keep them out. I usually make a comment when I read someones post and I feel bad that Google is blocking me for now.
Contessa,wow thank you so much for the mask information! This is a game changer for us,we have a deaf friend and she relys on lib reading,I went to the link and you can get 15 for $25.00 with visa or PayPal so 15 masks (a lot) it is. A very helpful idea and your garden is doing so well.

I can imagine how difficult for your friend to not be able to read lips. Hope this really helps her. Yes I saw that you can get 15 for $25.00. I think this lady is selling them at a slight increase in price to cover her time and costs.
These masks look great, but you need to realize that they are not to be used as PPE masks, the one’s we are all supposed to wear when outside. According to their website, they are not to be used for that application, they’re for restaurant workers to protect food from any sweat, etc., falling from the workers faces.
I don’t agree with you. The following is from the manufacturers website. “Masks are not intended to be used by medical providers. They are non-sterile and are not intended for use in any clinical or surgical setting or where exposure to bodily or hazardous fluids may be expected, where the risk of exposure through inhalation is high, or near intense heat or flammable gas. Masks are not surgical masks, personal protective equipment, or filtering respirators (such as N95 masks). ” Basically is is similar to any of the mask we can buy at a grocery store of Costco. None of those including homemade masks are are intended to be used buy medical staff or dentists. Unless you can get an N95 mask then you don’t have a PPE mask. They are being marketed and directed towards restaurant staff because they are clear BUT the are still serving their purpose to prevent the spread of droplets. Again from their main website “We release droplets when we speak, cough, or sneeze. We spread droplets in the air. Your business needs to earn public trust by showing that it cares about sanitation and health issues.” Far better to wear this than nothing or to have a typical blue mask hanging from your ears under your chin.
