It happened, we got snow today – big time
Yesterday morning I actually saw a sunrise, actually a sunrise reflection to the south.
The morning started off very cool but by 4PM the sun was out as were these two canoeists. They were bundled up and enjoying a beautiful afternoon @ 44F.
We were up around 7AM this morning and snow was falling. It was not yet sticking to the ground.
Then it began to stick. I was like a little kid running from window to window checking out every snowflake. Today we were supposed to be on day 4 of our 7 day Nile river cruise.
We had geese drop in yesterday and I guess they spent the night. The white on their backs is snow.
At first we were told to expect 4 inches of snow but a few hours later the forecast changed to possibly 6 inches of the white stuff.
It wasn’t long before the snow began to accumulate.
It was at this point that we decided to cancel our chiropractic appointments in Vernon for 11AM. Not a good idea to drive in these conditions not mention that so many still don’t have their snow tires on. Also with the first snow ( very early snow ) drivers can be erratic.
I was happy to just watch the snow fall. Eventually the flakes became larger and larger.
I felt like I was in a snow globe because of all of our windows with the flakes falling all around me. We saw a heron having a bit of difficulty flying during the heaviest snow fall and a female eagle circulating over and over looking for breakfast.
Temps remained around 0C/32F most of the day, although it did rise to 1C/34F mid afternoon.
I was surprised at how fast cars were driving down the road.
I never expected to see a snow plow. This is the parks version and it works.
We went out about 3PM to do a wee shovel and a two block walk.
I tried out my new coat which worked well, this one is good to -15C/5F. My twenty year old boots worked fine as did my ear muffs but I will need heavier pants and warmer gloves ( those I have ).
We are expecting to wake up to -9C/15.8F with the wind-chill in the morning.
Today was like the perfect storm – for me to try out my winter gear.
So are you all getting flu shots? I’m still on the fence. I have never had one before plus with all the sanitizing, mask wearing and social distancing not to mention not planning on having anyone inside our home, we should be safer than ever before.

WHAT – Snow! I thought the fruit belt of BC was supposed to be warm. And just think of the surprise all those RVers from the East will have when they arrive in BC for a warmer winter. Truthfully, here in London, we are in the ‘banana belt of Canada’ but we do get snow. Hoping it will be awhile yet before the fluffy stuff arrives. Mind you it does make for good pictures.
Exactly, we are currently setting records that have not occurred in 100 years. Did someone say 2020? We have seen RVers from Ontario, Manitoba and of course Alberta. Many are staying in our park this winter. They will be in for a surprise as we will.
Contessa, your photos look like Christmas cards, especially the one with the red berries and snow crowning the berries. Even though we have very little winter snow, I wish for some around the Christmas holidays; snow is so beautiful with all the decorations up. The last time I remembered was in Christmas of 1988; Dad was with us and Mom had died in August of that year. Since it was such an unusual gift here in the South, we all looked at each other and said Mom must have sent it from wherever she was.

On a totally different subject, Contessa, do you remember the name of your orthopedic surgeon in Mazatland? A friend of Croft’s and mine, Les Pearson, who lives in San Miguel de Allende, has had a bad recent knee injury while playing tennis. He has gone to a young orthopedic surgeon in San Miguel, and the surgeon has done x-rays and an MRI; the doctor indicates surgery more severe than what you or I had. Because of the severity of the injury, I thought maybe he should get a second opinion. If you go to Croft’s blog, look along the right side where Croft lists blogs he reads. Les’ blog is under the title “Mexican Kid.” He explains in detail what the doctor wants to do — a lot more complicated than your or my surgeries.
Thanks Dee, I wonder if the wonder of the snow will wear off over the next few months. I really do love my Merrell booties but did not wear them out today as I had no idea if there were piles of snow at the bank and the grocery store. I wore my twenty year old uncomfortable winter boots. They are warm but I can’r walk well in them.
As to Les, I was unable to do anything today due to computer issues. Les is pretty independent but I will get a message to him. My orthopaedic siege is very young and on the ball re the latest. He himself had many sport injuries and is a pro in that department.
We too got a taste of winter this week. We don’t mind the snow, if fact is quite beautiful but we sure could do without the cold temperatures!
I love the snow but have recently discovered that I can’t take the cold. I grew up in Edmonton, in Northern Alberta and remember how many layers I needed to wear just to take the bus to work. Hopefully it won’t be this cold all winter. If it is I will be inside all winter and they will have to roll me out of the house in the spring.
It has been 95 this past week in Tucson so it was quite shocking to see your snow. But then again, it’s almost Nov. Easy to forget the time of yr when it’s hot and sunny every day. But next week we’re getting your cold front… 2 days of 60, yikes! But then it will bounce back to the mid 80’s. I can deal with that. Couldn’t deal with snow tho. I enjoyed it when I was a kid growing up in Ontario but not anymore.
You’ve done a good job of preparing for it though and that’s half the battle. Enjoy the views!

60F, oh my, I feel for you. Be sure to bundle up 🙂 Yes we have been preparing for the cold and are not quite done yet. Having trouble getting our carpenter to respond to us. Vegas is nice but we kind of fell in love with Tucson last year when we were grounded there re repairs. Our plan is to spend more time there in the years to come before we cross into Mexico.
The Wife and I haven’t had flue shots in – well, forever, but are getting to the age where we have been thinking about starting.
But have decided that it won’t be this year. We’re pretty isolated under normal conditions and this year even more, so don’t see the sense in putting ourselves through that. (and perhaps getting ourselves exposed in the process)
Nice to hear from you Greg. I totally agree with your thoughts on getting that flu shot. Hang in there and keep staying safe.
We got lots of snow on the ski hill, had it been 3 degrees cooler we would have gotten it down here, rain instead. We did get our snow tires put on both vehicles/1 Thursday/1 Friday since I can only drive every other week and wanted to get things done early this year. We are putting up our Christmas lights on the house ( only the ones that need a ladder and clips) and no, we aren’t turning them on yet lol, just doing our November preps as no real plans can be made until we get some news, hopefully next week. You look nice and cozy in your winter outfit lol.
I had no idea that you had a ski hill there. Interesting. Our tires have the snowflake on them so we can drive in the snow with them. Plus the Jeep had 4 wheel drive so I think we are going to be fine. Best thing we ever did was buy that Jeep Cherokee Overland, although at the time we had no intention officering here in Canada. I can hardly wait to get our lights up. Like Mexico we will put white fairy lights in the two, maybe just one tree. Once I dig into our bins I will find some ‘vintage’ old-fashioned large colored lights which we will put up for Christmas outside. Have decided that I need warmer pants as I am very cold and it is not really that cold yet.
I think about you every day and continue to send healing thoughts your way. And of course that you will get the news you need to hear very soon.
Woke up to a couple of inches yesterday morning but mostly gone later in the day. -5c this morning. Would like a flu shot but they’re not here yet and don’t want want one right before we leave in case of a reaction.
Kathy,did you know that you can get the flu shot at no charge in MAzatlan.You might want to do that once you get there – fingers crossed re the flights.
We try hard to not need to drive the first day of snow every year, which we already had in Minnesota, too. We don’t want to be out there with al those who’ve forgotten how to do it.
Got my flu shot yesterday. My health insurer sent me a reminder to do that but I already had my appointment scheduled. My arm was a bit sore first thing today but is fine now. They say having the shot may reduce symptoms of Covid-19 if you get it. We have a friend having severe symptoms right now so we know it is in town but are glad for once to not have seen the friend.
Oh good to know that we made the correct decision about not driving on the first snow day. We had rescheduled our Chiro appointments for Monday and now we have a 60% chance of snow that day. I think that we will be fine. Yes Covid and flu symptoms as similar. We all have to make the right decision for ourselves. Hope your arm is back to normal tomorrow.
That picture of the hawthorn berries and the snow is so pretty! And the one with the snow on the backs of the geese is pretty funny, I’ve never seen that before.
We never get flu shots and won’t this year either.
Thank you, The berries actually belong to our Mountain Ash. First time I have ever seen snow on the backs of geese – I guess there are a lot of new to us things we will discover this winter. Good to know about the flu shot.

It is a lovely winter wonderland and so beautiful for you to see right from the privacy of your nice cozy warm house looking at the lake. We are getting flu shots highly recommend by Doctor brother in-law saying very much needed this year because you don’t want to chance getting the flu and lowering your immune system making yourself more susceptible allowing room for any other viruses to attack… so that’s first hand information from Dr. James Park ?

Yes we saw the video late last night just before I started dinner at 9PM, pretty late. Computer problems took most of the day. We are enjoying the snow from inside, I am going to have to get some warmer pants before I go outside for walks. I am having trouble with the cold. I am a retired RN as well but still never had one. I have pretty much decided that I won’t get one based on how isolated we will be this winter.

I saw on the news today all the snow you got. Apparently it has been 120 years since that has happened!
Not only snow but record breaking cold temps as well. Each night it is getting colder.
