Que Pasa
It sure is cold out there. Going down to -9C / 15.8F tonight. We got a lot of things crossed off our to do list today. We are really trying to get all the outside jobs done asap based on weather. While Colin was turning the soil in the garden, I was raking leaves. I can’t even remember the last time I raked leaves. I must have at some point but truly have no memory of it. The last big thing left is to bring in the Christmas bins and sort through them. I will sell what we won’t use.
I need some advice ladies. My legs are cold. I have fleece pants but the wind cuts right through. My ears, hands and upper body and feet are warm but not my legs. I purchased a pair of faux fur lined leggings at Just Cozy.ca here in the mall. They fit great and actually kept me warm on my walk around the yard in them. However they very quickly began to slide as in down from my waist. The crotch was many inches too low. I certainly won’t be able to wear these for a walk. I’d be hitching up my britches every ten steps. I loved how they kept me warm but they are impossible to wear. Where should I go to buy warm pants?
I am still selling odds and ends. So far ( since June ) I have made $442.50 from items that I might have just thrown out. We have a FB swap and shop here in the park. I got those free cement footprints for the garden last spring, some 24 x 24 x 2 inch cement slabs which will fit in with our new project, that saved us $80.00. I try and get a few dollars for my items but often give things away for free as well such as our Webber BBQ and some patio furniture. The other day I saw a used small chest freezer come up for sale for $75.00 but someone pounced on it within seconds. So I sent a message to the lady buying it and asked her if we could have her old freezer. She said it kept frosting up. Turns out that the lid simply needed a few bricks on top to keep the lid closed tightly. She was happy to get rid of it, problem solved for her and we were happy to get it as we needed space to store our frozen garden veggies plus food for the winter.
We have been doing many smaller projects. Once the hedge was gone the first thing Colin did was to get rid of all the spider nests high up at the top of our windows and under the eves. He also power washed those areas as well as the outside of the entire house. Hopefully that will take care of the active spider population. They love cedar hedges.
We haven’t been very still – always something to do. So looking forward to it all being done and just sitting and relaxing with the fireplace at full heat.
I leave you with a spectacular sunset taken October 29th.

Hi Contessa, keeping your legs toasty may take 2 items: #1) ankle lenght leggings that fit tightly. #2) on top of the leggings wear ankle to knee leg warmers. It works pretty well for me & few ladies I know. Buena suerte con este experimento, hope it works well for yah. My regards, Lucy.
Hola Lucy. Great suggestion. Muchas gracias.
Great score on the freezer, we have been looking for one and there is a long waiting list at the stores. I too am hoping to find one on FB.
I couldn’t believe that we got it for free. Even here there is a waitlist to get a new one. Good luck with finding one.
Two suggestions. 1. Use an elastic belt to hold up the pants. 2. Buy thermal underwear for women and wear them under more fashionable pants.
Gene you are brilliant. I won’t do the belt but I did order some thermal underwear. Many thanks.
If you don’t want to layer up finding Sweat Pants to wear will keep your legs warm.
Looks like you are nearly ready for the Winter.
Be Safe and Enjoy the Freezer.
It’s about time.
I have seat pants and I am freezing in them. I am going to get a thermal under layer. Based on all my comments I think that will help.
Such a smart idea to get her old freezer. You are getting much colder temperatures than us. We are getting zero overnight and daytime 6 degrees. There was a winter snow warning for the whole island but unlikely to affect us as we are so close to the water and not high enough thankfully. If you do sell Christmas items, especially vintage ones, price them high. Prices are at their absolute highest this year
I know you would appreciate the freezer deal!! This particular snow storm tonight is coming form your island. I am happy that you aren’t too cold. You have enough to deal with. I might check in with you depending on what I am selling.
To keep warm as kids in Orillia, we wore snow pants, and played outdoors for hours.
You could wear the ‘adult version’; buy ski or snowboard pants. On Amazon for about $40.
I will check that out. Never thought about that. The thing is I just want to go for small walks but not freeze. Surely I don’t need ski pants for that?
Costco has men’s fleece lined jeans, 26.99 hubby has five pairs.
Colin’s not cold at all, just me. Heck he is still wearing shorts most of the time. Great price though.
You could take a tip from Joe Namath’s playbook and wear pantyhose under your clothes. They block wind amazingly well if they are not the only layer. Plus they’d help support your knees.
Interesting. Colin mentioned today that his mom, Mommio, used to only wear pantyhose and boots and a coat. She only ever wore dresses or suits. Never knee the about supporting knees.
The panty hose idea will work. Lands End has flannel lined jeans (I think LL Bean has them too) that are very warm. You need socks to keep your feet and toes warm because if they are cold then you will be cold. Long underwear is magic –Lands End too. They have good sales going on now – sign up and get 40% or more off…

Welcome to the comment section of my blog. So good to have you here. Sadly we don’t have Lands End not LL Bean here. Likely I could buy them online. My chiropractor today said that a long time ago she bought silk undergarments from Eddie Bauer and they have kept her warm for years and years. Sadly I can’t find anyone selling sold under garments in my size.
Like another here, I suggest panty hose under your pants. If not sufficient, also try tights on top of the panty hose.
It may be easier than trying to find long underwear.
Thanks Dave. I appreciate your advice. I have found some supposed thermal underwear on Amazon. Hopefully that will work. If not I will try pantyhose.
That’s interesting about your leggings from Just Cozy. I bought two pairs after you told me about them and had a problem with them sliding down on my first walk … I just went and exchanged them for a smaller size.
Good to know, I am going to take them back on Thursday. Hope that smaller size works for you. They really did keep me warm but just were not practical. As I said, how can you walk if you have to keep pulling up your pants:) I guess I told you how great they were before I walked in them. So sorry.
Beautiful sunset photos.
What about silk long underwear for women. Not any bulk under your clothes and Lands End has them at very reasonable prices. In fact they have quite a few choices for long underwear. Good luck with your search.
Exciting new project; I am staying tuned.
I am trying to find that silk underwear. I will check out Lands End, thanks for the tip. As to the ‘project’ it is all now based on weather – I means snow!
Your soup looks so yummy ? great for a cold night, I have purchased fleece lined leggings from Costco two pairs in package for $20.00. I love them so much I bought another pack they have a wide waist band and do not slide around or up and down, the package contains 1-black 1-grey. I have lots of leggings because I pretty much live in them and find them extremely comfortable to wear and you can dress them up or down. And keep in mind it’s Costco if you don’t like them even after wearing them take them back no questions asked ?.Hope this helps you out.
I haven’t looked at Costco. I think we are going Friday so I will check that out. So great that we can do any return at Costco.
