Really, December 1st! How did that happen?
November passed in a blur. All because of the fence, I guess. I’m not quite ready for December. I had visualized a few weeks of just laying about reading. I have had some eggnog here and there. Lovely stuff, especially after an absence of 20 years. So far I prefer adding brandy rather than rum, but then I am not fussy. So what type of eggnog do you prefer? Here in Canada we have totally different grocery stores than you do in the US. So far here in BC I have only found Dairyland 😕  Original or Classic? Is there anything better?
In addition to eggnog we have been indulging in a lovely Christmas cake. I purchased this from a lady here in the park that bakes and sells her creations. She is the one we got bread and other goodies from last April and May. All were delicious, so we decided to invest $20.00 in her dark fruit cake. Â It was very very tasty but hopefully mine will be a tad better.
Surprise. We woke up to a frozen lake this morning.
It was a lovely sunny day with temps of 4C/39F.
But the lake was frozen. It was all lovely liquid water yesterday. So surprised to see the ice today. How can it happen so fast? Â Nothing that I could see melted today.
Frosty cold.
Yesterday I had my last vein treatment, at least 60 injections based on the cotton balls and tape. Â Three treatments on each leg within a 12 month period. The earliest I can start again is September 2021. No one knows if we will be traveling again by then. If we can we will still try and get to Egypt. It all depends on rules and requirements for travel. I think I will be delaying my next vein treatments to April of 2022. That way if we can’t fly anywhere, we will hopefully be able to drive to Mexico and stay there as long as we can.
Cindy, a good friend here in the park, snapped this photo a day or so ago. She captured two trumpeter swans and their cygnet swimming behind them. Â I so hope that this is the same family I got photos of a few weeks ago. It would be great if that family had reunited.

This was taken two days ago on Sunday the 29th. Simply spectacular.
I was rather surprised today when the sun went behind the mountain at 3:00PM. Suddenly it was darker and by 4:30PM it was dark. I guess we surely are in December.
Tonight as I was writing this I heard geese overhead. How can they land on the lake in the dark?  What happens when they are expecting water but they hit ice 😯

Your tree in the window with your other christmas items is lovely!! Great spot for it. Hubby and I saw swans overhead yesterday, they like to hang out in farmers fields here for the winter.
Thank you. I think that is the only spot in the entire house that we could place a tree. I am now concerned as the lake is frozen so what happens now with all of our feathered friends? Wish I could be there so see them flying.
The best eggnog is from Blackwell Dairy in Kamloops. Very expensive but worth it. They no longer deliver to our area. All their products are excellent. You could call them and see if someone in your area carries it.

Time flies even when you’re not having fun.
Presently the Canadian Border will remain closed indefinitely.
If the Ice is thick enough to hold their weight It’s funny watching Geese landing on Ice.

It’s about time.
We heard some geese come in just past dusk tonight. We could see them walking on the lake but missed them landing due to low light.
Brrrr. But what a great thing to have such a view, frozen as it may be, and be warm inside. At this time of year, with the early dark, Christmas lights cannot come too soon. Oh. Down here in Texas, whiskey is added to eggnog. I’d like the brandy as well I think. Or maybe even rum. Yes. Any of the above.

Hey you, thanks for checking in. Not sure if I have ever had whiskey. I think I will stick with what I have. There are several on our street that have lovely displays of lights up but they only turn them on a few ties per week. I guess they are saving electricity. So far I am warm, have been enjoying the sun outside form the inside, but once I step out is cold.

Mom made homemade egg nog, GREAT stuff, but don’t know why we never got sick, raw eggs!!! AND had whiskey in it!!!!

You never got sick because you Mom was a great cook! I doth; think that I have ever had whisky. I think I will stick with what I already have.
Hmm, good question about the geese 🙂 Your tree and decorations look very nice and that sunset picture was spectacular!
I also had my first rum and egg nog since we started travelling south seven years ago. For me it’s Lucerne Eggnog from Safeway, if it’s not Lucerne then I just won’t have eggnog … and none of that light eggnog, if your going to drink egg nog you have to go all out!

I loved that sunset. I hope you know that I always think of you at sunset. Today was a cold one. First time that I feel I need a scarf around my face.
The view from your sunroom is incredible! Yes, geese can land in the dark and for the most part they land so gently that they and just land on the ice without a problem. Sometimes when they come in a little faster it is quite comical to see them land and slide across the ice to a stop though!
We so love our view. It changes everyday. Not sure what we will see now that the lake is frozen. I really appreciate your explanation re the geese landing. Now I am wondering what happens to the ducks, do they get frozen into the lake and can’t move. I saw some out there today and they did not move. Also how do the geese take off, as they usually use their feet to paddle onward and upward?
Generally the only ducks that get left behind on the ice are too injured to fly and although the ducks appear to be “just sitting there” as the ice closes in around them their little feet are going crazy stirring up the water creating movement and trying to keep it open. Eventually winter always wins and they have to move on. Most ducks can just pop right up and fly but diver ducks, geese and swans appear to need a little runway to get going. They don’t necessarily need it but it helps and they will use it if it is available!
