This past Sunday we were happy to see snow on the ground when we woke up. It was lovely.
Colin called me over to the window. I quickly snapped this shot. My camera is always in hand on the Isla or at my side. Now we have a few cameras set around the house.
Fortunately Colin was able to zoom in with his camera. Is that a coyote? What is the difference between a wolf and a coyote? We are pretty sure it was a coyote. Colin said that he had heard them howling at 1AM.
Beautiful creature. It was very far out crossing the lake, from the golf course towards the highway. Definitely another first. However it does look like the two wolves that Colin had photographed in a home back in October. Yes pure wolves, living in a home.
Later we noticed quite a few tracks in the snow out on the lake. Yesterday we had other tracks very close to the shore, just a few inches from our beach. Those went from as far as I could see to the right and all the way the left towards the golf course.
We even spied an eagle though the falling show, way over next to the rail trail.
Even when it wasn’t snowing it was pretty.
Time to share another small Christmas display.
Our doxie angels, Carmeh and Caeli, plus angel creations made by a friend long ago.
No snow yesterday, the 14th, but we did get a tiny sunset.
This was taken on the Isla last Saturday, the 12th. Simply stunning.
I took this on December 12th, 2017.
I was awakened this morning at 5:15AM by the renter neighbour shovelling!!! Oh well it was great to see snow covering everything. For some reason I did not take any photos. I just sat in my recliner enjoying the falling snow most of the day, sometimes heavy and at times light. It was my snow day to just sit and revel in the moment. I had recently read that we will not be having a white Christmas this year and that this was likely the last of the snow for 2020. Today was our 7th snowfall of the year. The biggest and coldest was on October 23rd.
Today I did not take photos other than with my eyes except for this one. I liked how the snow was sticking to the fence and of course the berries.
This afternoon we went out for a ride in the golf cart and to take out the garbage, collect the mail etc. We also spent sometime looking for the perfect location for our annual Christmas card, then we went for a walk and finally we both shovelled the driveway and the road in front of our home. Quite the fun day. No sooner had we got inside that it started to snow again. Eggnog and brandy time:)
It is a work in progress.
It was about 3.30PM when I took this facing south. Snowing and dark. I am wondering if the lake is starting to thaw yet again or if that is just the snow on top that is melting.
Meanwhile to the north there was a strange yellowish light in the sky with a light snow falling.
I won’t stop hoping for a white Christmas. Anything is possible 😆
Well since March 25th……
Love how your embracing being home and not complaining like some lol enjoying your updates! ??
Doing the best I can to make the best of our situation. But honestly, I would rather be on the Isla. However there is always a next year. Best to remain safe. I just some some photos and so many of the people are just hanging together like there was no COVID.
Definitely a coyote – according to google they have smaller nose pad and narrow snout but growing up in Northern bc we saw many coyote and wolves, that is definitely a coyote. I think wolves have much more body weight too. Neat that you are seeing so much winter wildlife. Your Christmas home looks lovely.
Thank you the explanation. I should have looked it up myself. I have managed to turn my thinking around so I am making the best of everything.
That coyote looked well fed compared to the ones we see in the desert.
We have then in our area as well.
Always enjoyed a White Christmas then it can leave.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It’s about time.
Well seeing as we haven’t been in Canada for Christmas in twenty years, I would love a white Christmas. It certainly looked well fed.
Did you find some Blackwell Dairy egg nog?
Not yet. But I do know where to find it in town. We are trying not to go into town too many times.
Quite the difference in your usual Winter pictures
Pretty sure that is a Coyote, healthy one!! How do they know they can just walk across the lake? Mother nature???
That is exactly what I said to Colin. How does the coyote know that the ice is frozen enough to carry its weight? How did it used to get to where it was going without walking straight across the lake? Nature is amazing. Today the lake is thawing out again.
Oh thanks again for the photos…cold outside, warm inside, and lots of things to see both places. Coyotes. Did you ever expect that? The eagle, maybe….Stay safe and warm, and thanks again.
We had no idea what to expect Judith. It is all new for us. Thus far entertaining.
